My work consists of writing business plans around an Excel model of an existing business or a prospective business opportunity. The models I construct are used for analysis and decision support. They are dashboard driven and consist of business analysis tools (normal & customary, industry specific, company particular). Frequently, I participate as the quantification and visualization member of a team involved in opportunity analysis and business plan creation. The usual situations I'm brought into are: 1) raising capital, 2) making an acquisition(s), 3) being acquired/divestiture, 4) valuation, 5) management intervention, 6) new initiative/start-up. Sometimes I'm brought in by the banker, sometimes by the company, sometimes by the sponsor (e.g. university tech transfer department). My work almost always starts by creating a forecasting tool that captures pertinent variables and then models the opportunity/situation. The forecasting tools I construct are based on, and are usually a combination of management and consultant judgment/experience and use of business analysis, mathematical and statistical modeling techniques. The resulting models are then used to support or be the basis for strategic planning including scenarios, exceptional events/occurrences, uncertainty and risk analysis. Model results are incorporated into a business plan and are used for presentations.

I am fluent in finance, business and financial analysis, forecasting and modeling, visualization techniques and MS Office. My work makes considerable use of VBA. I have been constructing models and forecasting tools and writing business plans for over 40 years.
