Hi guys/gals!!
I rarely post on tech forums for two reasons -- I usually dont have enough expertise to answer anyone's questions, and secondly, I like to hunt the answers to my questions first, before bothering others to take the time to answer me specifically.
I find that simply throwing my problem at the universe in simple terms with the help of mr google gets you all to jump to attention for me without having to really bother you, and I am usually overwhelmed and delighted within nanoseconds by your huge response. I'm 70 years old, and everyday this wonderful technology always surprises and delights me.
They tell us that learning must always start from the known, and that is very true, but Ive also learned over the years that formal education is often boring & tedious, and its much more fun to jump in at the deep end, and then link back to the known by swimming around looking for a familiar landmark or two.
I was truly delighted by this story http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9yuAhusVts of a 15 yo boy who went in at the deep end, mostly using google and wikipedia, and resurfaced with a new toy for us - a more accurate, faster, simpler and cheaper test for detecting pancreatic & lung cancer.
I have avoided spreadsheets thus far, and my aim is not as lofty as his was -I simply want to be able to audit my phone bill properly. I found bits and pieces, but all not addressing the level of complexity this needs. I found exactly what I want here (2648297), but while the guy with the vcard list problem was delighted with the solution he was given, the answer made too many assumptions about my own prior knowledge, so I am still swimming around out here. But I am not throwing it at the universe in general, I am throwing it at you fellers now. I am sure you wont disappoint me.
