I lost part of one page in an excel file -

Hi All. I just discovered this forum and ironically I have an issue. I lost part of a page that is part of a file. I checked everyone, other pages in the file, the recycle bin, and the delete section and nothing. The way it is missing part of the page is odd as it is a column of food titles in the middle of numeric columns. I do not shut my PC off but the file was close and when i opened it to add some new intake part of the page was missing! It is from my Office 2007 Excel that was added for me by Data Doctors, which is a local Computer repair company. Great service and a knowledgeable staff. So any ideas on some direction would be helpful. thanks in advance - BUDDY1

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Obvious first question is have you checked to see whether the column is hidden?

Hi Richard, that was the first thing I tried, but not being too PC sharp i looked at every file and every page in those files to see if i might have moved the part I am missing. The strange part is I would never have a reason to move any of the info and definitely not the way that it was left. The file in question is on my desktop so that is where I checked all of the rest of the files that are on my desktop. I am going to try to rebuild it but it would take a very long time, so i was hoping there may be a quick fix. My computer "tech" said to call Microsoft and see if that had a solution but I opted to come here first hoping someone has had this happen to them. I can try to explain the drafting of the file but I am afraid i would lose something in the explanation. I really felt that somehow i copied it and moved it somewhere, but like i said the section missing makes no sense. It is a secction of one column of about 10 columns and it is in the center right. ???

Your original post suggested that it was one file - presumably a workbook file that had a problem. In the last post you mentioned many files so I'm a bit puzzled. Are you saying that there are other files that are being inked to by the file that has missing data in some way, perhaps linked by macros or with functions. For instance did the cells in the previously populated column refer to cells in an external file which have been deleted in that external file?

Are you able to upload the workbook and describe the information that is missing.

When did the data first go missing? Was it there immediately before Data Doctors upgraded your Excel? If so have you asked them what they actually did to upgrade Excel?

Hi Richard, first let me correct what my original message tried to communicate. Data Dr's installed my Microsoft Office Excel package from my original uploading of it when they built me a new PC. I think they used a "key" and reloaded it from that. That was at least 3 years ago. They really haven't touched it since. The way I explained it was terrible so I hope that corrects that. I will try to upload but I am not real sure how to do that here but I will try when I get this message finished.
I have medical issues and years ago i started designing excel files to track my daily activities regarding my health. The one I lost part of was a folder entitled "Calories" on my desktop. In it there are 3 files(?) or pages, it is my Daily food intake. The file is one page and contains a section where I add everything I eat. The main part of that page is my records by food groups of the information I need to track - Item name, Cal, sod, carbs, & protein. The list I made allows my to simply copy & past in the daily tracking section of that same page. The next morning I add my weight to that daily list copy & paste that to another page that follows that info by that day, then I go back to the tracking page and copy the actual food eaten along with the numbers and add it to yet another page that follows the info by month. When all this is done I end up with a food and weight records that go back months, years. Overkill, yeah probably but kind of fun tracking it and designing the page. Plus it gives me something to do. What I lost was the part of the "main" page and the loss started right after the food Group heading of "Soups - Gravy - Beans & All Other Canned". And like I said I am only missing the list of the food names, all the numbers are there but loss goes on down that page and took other food groups with it all the way down.
I don't know if all that helped at all but I hope it is a little more clear. I will try to copy & load the page that is affected. I have started to repopulate some of the lost info from the records that were copied from here and moved to the other daily, monthly files I mentioned so don't let that confuse you further. Richard in closing this isn't really a big deal, just frustrating to me because I like to know hwy things happen. Anyway don't kill yourself on this, but thanks for your time & interest. I hope i can load the file in question.
Well I tried and it copied something but it was not spaced as it is in my file - it was all jumbled.
I could try emailing it to you but I am not sure how far you want to get into this. Like I said it really isn'y a big deal, and maybe this helps explain it better. To me it seems more like a file issue, or a corrupt file?
