Advice to select the Desktop configuration PC

    Dear Friends.

Currently I am using desktop having configuration of Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-4150 CPU @ 3.50GHz, 8GB RAM, 64 bit operating system, MS office 2010.

Mostly I work on multiple excel files of approx. 150mb size each. ( rows of 9 lac with 5 pivot table).
My excel hangs and it restarts automatically after popping errors.
Its really troublesome to work and affecting my productivity.

We plan to buy i5, 8/16 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD.
Will this configuration solve my problems to excel ?

Also advice the latest configuration PC which can solve my excel problem.

    Please assist.

Others will be more knowledgeable, but what version of office will you be running in the future as this will also influence things

The structure of the spreadsheets may also be part of the reason for hanging, but they are large sheets. Popping errors is not a very specific description of a problem. is it when running vba code, running out of memory, refreshing a link etc?

An SSD will probably open your workbooks faster and suing 64-bit Excel, otherwise your RAM usage will cap out very quickly

A ryzen cpu offers more bang for bucks, especially since intel decides to delay icelake yet again.
    I'd recommend ryzen 5 /7,

If you're not into serious gaming or OC'ing, no need for the newer x570, x370/x470 will do.
I'd also recommend nvme m2, the price difference with ssd is negligible these days.

I have an SSD on my laptop and working with Excel is much faster. I advise you to install it, too!

I would like to add that now the cost of SSD has decreased, so it is a very affordable option to upgrade your computer.

Yes, I agree, now it makes no sense to consider buying a computer with HDD, only with SSD.

SSD makes sense for running Op Sys, apps and programs from. Data storage is probably still best kept for the larger HDD's though.

    A quick check on amazon...
    2TB SSD - $247 (samsung)
    12TB HDD - $249 (Seagate)

Obviously there are huge price variances, but I that was interesting

Even looking for these prices and thinking about the space I'll get, I'll choose SSD.

I think it was just a price comparison as they cost the same. I don't think that it was suggested as being required

You might if you were creating professional videos for a living or if you wanted to keep lots of incremental back-ups of your system ...

My wife is working with 3DSMAx and renders take a lot of places. So everything depends on what you are going to work with.

Indeed it was. I just mentioned that currently HDD have far higher capacity for the same price range.

And, as was mentioned above, some people really do need all that extra storage space.

As already mentioned above, it depends ENTIRELY on your needs, there really is no "best" choice that fits all situations.

I have bought my wife a 2T SSD for xmas, she is a part-time photographer and has all her pics stored/backed up on an external 2T HDD. The other day when she tried to access them, she (we) had a bit scare because the drive "wasnt found" - turned out to be the cable wasnt in properly.

That led me to thinking that an SSD is more secure with regards to disk failure than HDD, so I will be moving her back-ups from the HDD to the SDD, but this move has more to do with data security/integrity than with speed of access. The SDD cost $249 (was $369), an equivocal HDD would have cost 1/4 of that
