When I highlight and copy text from an Internet page, and then paste to Word or Excel, a large dot which apparently is a drawing object is inserted instead of the text.

If You just want the text
copy from IE
Paste in top Windows Notepad
Copy from Notepad
Paste into M$ Word
The applications are trying to be cleaver and Your copy is HTML in WWW format and so goes bonkers
Pictures are copy object and paste into Word one at a time, remember to format the pictures as tight
NOTE these pictures can be slippery / naughty little buggers best of times when the decide to skate around and mess up Word documents so make 'em tight
