    Files open "Off Screen"

    I have win7 64 bit with Office 2013 with a HP laptop.
When at my desk, I use 2 monitors.
Setting in the screen resolution is set to "extend these displays."

My issue is when I am using my laptop away from my desk, programs will open up off screen as if they were being displayed on the 2nd monitor when I'm connected to my monitors.
I do not use my laptop screen when I am connected to my monitors.
Use either 2 monitoers at my desk, or laptop screen when I am away from my desk.

Is there a solution/setting that I need to set in windows?
Right now I have to remember to drap programs to the "primary" monitor space before I close the program.
Inevitably I will forget, and get stuck with a desired program opening up in virtual space where I cannot use it.

    Thanks.

I have had a similar situation with nearly any application (not just office). I was able to use Alt-Tab to "select" the 'off screen' program. Then, use Alt-SpaceBar to bring up the non-visible menu that has "move" on it. Hitting "M" for move will set that application to a 'moveable' state where the arrow keys will move it. Just remember which way the application is off screen and use the correct arrow direction key to move it to the visible display. You can experiment with this on both displays to see how this "looks/behaves". Of course, with only one display, you can't see the off-screen application until you move it close enough to see it. When you can see enough of the title bar, hit Enter and then mouse-drag it the rest of the way.

    Re: Files open "Off Screen"

I have since discovered a much easier way to get a "lost window" back to the main display when you don't have your alternate display connected...
    (This is under Windows 7)
    This is easy...
First, hold the "Windows" key (winkey) - usually between the Alt & Ctrl keys, then as you still hold that key, tap "Tab". While still holding Winkey, roll the scroll wheel on your mouse.
If you don't have a scroll wheel, keep tapping Tab while still holding Winkey.
When you see the window you want in front of the "deck", let go of Winkey. If it was off screen, it will still be off screen, but the next key sequence is awesome...
Hold Winkey again (while that lost - off screen application is active) Then hold the Shift key, then tap the left arrow a few times and see what happens. Let go, when the application is visible.
