Using Power Query which is called Get and Transform in Excel 365 and found on the Data Tab.

Power Query is a free AddIn for Excel 2010 and 2013, and is built-in functionality from Excel 2016 onwards (where it is referred to as "Get & Transform Data").

It is a powerful yet simple way of getting, changing and using data from a broad variety of sources, creating steps which may be easily repeated and refreshed. I strongly recommend learning how to use Power Query - it's among the most powerful functionalities of Excel.

    Re: 2016 Weekday/Weekend with time

Thank you very much alansidman, just a final question please, how do I sum data based as well as find average based on date, let's say I want the sum for each date across the time period for that date. This also applies to the average for that date. I need this to compute along the different date for the workdays and weekend respectively. Thanks

Rule 03: Cross-posting Without Telling Us

Your post does not comply with Rule 3 of our Forum RULES. Do not cross-post your question on multiple forums without telling us about your threads on other forums.

Post a link to any other forums where you have asked the same question.

Cross-posting is when you post the same question in other forums on the web. The last thing you want to do is waste people's time working on an issue you have already resolved elsewhere. We prefer that you not cross-post at all, but if you do (and it's unlikely to go unnoticed), you MUST provide a link (copy the url from the address bar in your browser) to the cross-post.

Read this to understand why we ask you to do this.

I have added the crosspost reference for you today. Please comply with this and all our rules in the future

Re: Post #5 Please supply an example of what you are suggesting. I have no idea what you are asking. Show us what you have for a limited number of entries and what you expect the results to look like.

I think you should take a few minutes and re-read the forum rules you agreed to when you joined.

    A wild guess!

    In E2 copied down:

    =SUM(B$2:B2)

    In F2 copied down:

    =SUM(B$2:B2)/COUNT(B$2:B2)

OK, so how about providing a workbook with some manually calculated results so that we can see what you want? Otherwise all we can do is guess. Telling me it doesn't work does not tell me what you want it to do!!!

Thank you AliGW, my initial questions was answered very well by Alansidman, I have been able to find a way around the second one using SUMIFS and AVERAGEIFS, I am very grateful
