    Cell shading not being able to be locked

    Hello,
    I have a range of cells, lets say A2:A22.
    The rows are banded (alternately coloured) by way of 'format cell' (no table or conditional formatting).
    The user is expected to enter information into these cells.
    Sometimes, to save time, the user will copy or cut a cell and paste it elsewhere (e.g. copy A5 and post it to A6).
    The information is pasted successfully but so too is the shading, which means the alternate pattern no longer exists.
    I feel I have tried all combinations of locking and protection, but cannot find a solution to 'lock' the cell shade.

    Assistance in this matter would be incredible.

    Welcome to the forum.

    I would think you have two options, really:

    1. Train your staff to use Paste Special - Values (probably not a viable suggestion).
    2. Use some VBA to force copy paste to paste values only (not sure if this is possible, but if it is, it will only work if everyone is working in the desktop app).

    If you want this moving to the VBA section, I can do that for you.

    Use Conditional Formatting:=ISODD(ROW(A2)), applied to cells A2:A22

    Alternatively why don't you let the row shading be part of a conditional format and it would not matter? Or would this mess up something else?
