Force Excel to ask for data source each time I open it

Hi All,

Just trying to use get data from other spreadsheets for the first time. Power query??

So using the Get Data > From File > From Excel Workbook - I can find my folder where the other spreadsheets (12 of them) are contained and I can select one and load it into my current workbook as a table and all is well.

What I want to achieve is when I reopen my workbook, (or force a refresh of the data) I want Excel to ask me what spreadsheet of the 12 in the folder I want to get the data from to load.

How do I do this?

Here is how I would do it assuming they are all the exact same format.

Make a copy of any of your source files and give it a fixed name like My Data.xlsx. Build your query from My Data.xlsx.

Then write codes to prompt for the name of the source file you want to use: maybe put them in a list box or something. When the source file is selected, copy it over My Data.xlsx and then run the query.

Kick the whole thing off with a OnOpen workbook event.
