Please try Conditional Format rule: =MOD($A2,2)=1 applies to $A$2:$B$8
Hi Hans,
The solution is applicable when column A is number. What if it is text value?

Sorry for not making it clearer.

You could use a 'helper' column (which you can hide).
In cell "C1" enter 0 (zero)
In cell "C2" enter:and pull down.Formula:Please Login or Register to view this content.
You now can use the conditional formatting rule from HandDouwe on the 'helper' column: =MOD($C1,2)=1 applies to $A$2:$C$20

Please try Conditional Format rule: =MOD(ROWS(UNIQUE(A$2:A2)),2)=1 applies to $A$2:$B$10
