xml files in excel 2003 sp3

    Hi

Some users get a prompt up asking how they wish to open an xml file when opening xml files using excel. The prompt is

Please select how you would like to open this file:
    as an xml file
    as a read only workbook
use the xml source task pane

I would like several of the users who do not currently get this prompt to get the prompt to appear when opening the file. I have already ruled out office version, OS, and service pack level. It doesn't make any difference whether you select open with or change the default for .xml to open with excel. Several people have asked the same question on other forums and there is no working response. If anyone can help please do

    Cheers

    Welcome to the forum,

Your post does not comply with Rule 8 of our Forum RULES. Cross-posting is when you post the same question in other forums on the web. You'll find people are disinclined to respond to cross-posts because they may be wasting their time solving a problem that has been solved elsewhere. We prefer that you not cross-post at all, but if you do (and it's unlikely to go unnoticed), you MUST provide a link (copy the url from the address bar in your browser)to the cross-post. Expect cross-posts without a link to be closed a message will be posted by the moderator explaining why. We are here to help so help us help you!

Re: xml files in excel 2003 sp3

Considering the question has gone unanswered when posted by other people on several forums I think the most important thing to do is make sure that I update the post with the working resolution when one is found and that is much more likely to happen when posted on several forums.

"You'll find people are disinclined to respond to cross-posts because they may be wasting their time solving a problem that has been solved elsewhere"
it hasn't and I have stated that, hence the heinous crime off cross posting.

However, not wanting to be an offender of rule 8 here is the link

Are you able to suggest a resolution by any chance?

    Thank you for your time
