    copy/paste source cell paths

    Hi all,

I'm a newbie to the forum, so please excuse any breaches in etiquette!

I tried searching this, but I don't know what to call what I'm trying to do, so it's not going very well...

Is there a way to copy/paste the source cells for a range of data? For example, I have a table with a bunch of raw data, and another table on a summary tab that looks prettier for better presentation. I want to be able to change the source table data and have the summary tab table update automatically, without having to go individually into each cell and referencing the source cell (eg putting ='Q2 2011'!C26 " or ='Q2 2011'!C27 into each summary table cell).

Is there a way to copy/paste the source cell paths without having to do each one individually?

    THANKS!

Try toggling with CTRL + ~ (tilde) to show the path/formula.

    Re: copy/paste source cell paths

Thanks Pete - I'm more trying to save time by copying a cell range (ex: E17:E33) and then pasting that range onto a new spreadsheet.. but instead of pasting the values, I want to paste those cell references. Eg I want the pasted cell values to be ='SourceTab'!E17, ='SourceTab'!E18, ='SourceTab'!E17... etc. Is that possible?

Alicewonderland0: Best I can come up with is to click on the destination cell, type =, and navigate to your source data and click enter. Copy down on your destination worksheet; assuming that your source data is in a contiguous order. Then you can toggle formula view on and off using CTRL tilde to see your source locations. Hope that is useful.

Thanks Pete123abc! That is what I ended up doing - luckily for me the data IS contiguous

UPDATE - excel *does* have this ability! In the Paste Special menu, it's the "Paste Link" button in the bottom left corner.
