    Find min/max value dependent on one value

    Dear all,

    I am trying to solve to following problem:

    Here's the set up (see also attached file)

    A B C
    Phase Start date End date
    1 1.1.15 20.2.15
    1 23.2.15 5.3.15
    2 6.7.15 8.8.15
    3 2.9.15 10.11.15

    The table continues with more entries

    What I am trying to do is to find the earliest start and the latest end date for each phase. I already googeled and discovered the following formula:

    However this does not work and returns an error.

    Do you have any idea how to solve the issue?

    that could work if you simply click in it and hit ctrl, shift and enter to make it an array.

    Hi Seb and welcome to the forum,

    This problem can be solved using a Pivot Table and it doesn't even need a single formula. See the attached for the answer to your example.
