What is the order of operations used when evaluating formulas in Excel?
As in standard math, Excel uses an order of operations when evaluating different operators within the formula bar. You almost certainly recognize the acronym PEMDAS, it's the order of operations taught in math classes around the world, and it's also the order Excel uses. PEMDAS means:

    Parenthesis
    Exponents
    Multiplication
    Division
    Addition
    Subtraction
When evaluating formulas, Excel always processes operators in this order. If you find yourself getting an unexpected result from your math formulas, check that the parentheses are used correctly to achieve the results you want.

Interesting, I was taught BODMAS...essentially the same thing...

    Brackets
    Order
    Division
    Multiplication
    Addition
    Subtraction

As I said though, essentially the same thing, but with a few different terms for the same thing.
