Conditional formatting if cells are italicized

I'm trying to figure out how to use conditional formatting if a set of cells is italicized.

    See the attached sample. Book1.xlsx

I want to fill the values in columns E through Z with 20% red only if that rows value in column A is italicized and I want no fill if the value is not italicized. For example, if A2 is italicized then I want E2 through Z2 filled with 20% red.

I haven't found anything via Google on how to do this so I'm asking here.

    Thank you.

Re: Conditional formatting if cells are italicized

I know of no formula that will recognise formatting in a cell, formatting is cosmetic, not data, and formulas work on data Is there some logoc to why the cell would have italic, because we may be able to use that for what you want
    1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

Because the data is old. I've italicized all of it and then remove the italics when I've updated the data with current numbers. The old data isn't so far off that the numbers are useless, it's just much less accurate than I'd like it to be. It's just somewhat difficult to pick out non-italicized text when scrolling through it.

This can probably be done with VBA. If that is something you would be OK with, I can move this to that forum?

VBA is just fine. I was hoping for a simpler solution with just a conditional formatting rule.
