Grouping Dates in a Pivot Table - Excel for Office 365

Hi All,

I'm trying to summarize pivot table dates by month. I've read and watched a few videos including one that shows that after pulling the date into the rows box, a field called Months appears. The user can then use months. That doesn't appear on my pivot table. Another video showed clicking on one of the dates and choosing Group. I get a messages saying "Cannot Group That Selection". I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I tried to post the file but the forum won't let me.

One of the reasons you may be getting the cannot group that selection is because the date really isn't a date but perhaps a string that looks like a date. It is difficult to tell without seeing the source data.

Attaching a sample workbook with representative, but non-sensitive data should help us help you a lot.

Attach a sample workbook (not a picture or pasted copy). Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

Remember to desensitize the data.

Click on GO ADVANCED and then scroll down to Manage Attachments to open the upload window.
