Excel Doesn't Accept Dots As Decimal Symbol

    Current Windows Settings
    List Seperator : ","
    Decimal Symbol : "."
    Digit Grouping Symbol : ","

    Format Cells - Number
    Use 1000 Separator : Uncheck
    Decimal Places : 3

I enter 2015.640 (and I want It shows like this)

Then Excel turns it to 2015640,000

    How to fix that?

In your Excel options, is the "use system separators" checked or unchecked? https://support.office.com/en-us/art...5-aebb9837bd1e

    It is "Unchecked"

I tried to make it "Checked"

    Now It turns "262" !

Re: Excel Doesn't Accept Dots As Decimal Symbol

To make sure I understand, you are saying that Excel is changing the entry 2015.640 to the number 262? I have no idea why Excel would make that change. Any chance there is a macro present that would execute that change? Can you provide any more details about exactly what you are doing? Perhaps upload a sample spreadsheet (though that may not help if it is something else in your computing environment)?

    Yes, exactly.

I'm trying to write numbers from a book. Then apply some mathematical formulas to them.

Re: Excel Doesn't Accept Dots As Decimal Symbol

I have no idea why Excel would drastically change an entry like that, I have never seen it. I am aware of the "automatic decimal entry" option that will add a decimal point to your entry, but that is different than completely changing the entry. Does this behavior occur in all workbooks or just specific workbooks? Does it occur in a new workbook? Any other information you can provide about your computing environment?

Re: Excel Doesn't Accept Dots As Decimal Symbol

    I solved the issue.

    1) Change Windows Settings

Windows + S – Time & Language – Related Settings – Additional Date, Time & Regional Settings – Region – Change Date, Time or Number Formats – Additional Settings

    1)
    Excel Seperator : “,”
    2) Decimal Separator : “.”
    3) Thousand Separator : “,”

    2) Excel – File – Options – Advanced – Editing Options (At the top) – Use System Separators

    3) Format the cell as "Numbers"

    Thanks for all the answers.
