When I paste a chart from excel to powerpoint my excel shuts down.

I have excel 2016 and I believe my Power Point is also 2016. In any event, in the excel I've created some charts that I copy and paste into Power Point. When I do this, sometimes my excel workbook just shuts down. Other times I get a message that says something like 'excel is trying to open up another workbook with this name'. Still other times nothing happens, I'm able to copy and paste as normal.

Anyone have any ideas as to what's going on? Am I doing something wrong??

I would hazard to guess that you are not actually pasting the chart as an image, but instead it's embedding the excel sheet into the PPT.

And this is just a guess because I don't have 2016 for either of those; I'm still on 2010.

But in any case, maybe try copying the chart in excel like normal (eg, CTRL+C), and then in PPT, rather than just slapping CTRL+V, instead right-click to launch the tooltip, and I think there should be a list of "Paste Options" and one of those should be "paste as image", which will allow you to slap the chart in as a dumb JPG instead of getting fancy and embedding it.
