Merged cells conditional format issue with colours

    Hi,

I have a simple Yes/No drop down list that changes the cell colour (red & green) when yes/no is changed, the CF setting seems to work to change the colour but then fails after a few attempts and shows both red & green.

If i slightly adjust the column width then the CF works ok.

Is there some sort of bug / fault and if so is there a workaround with another formula ( maybe isblank or something) or any other method.

Further instructions in the enclosed example file.

    Regards
    Garry

may be a bug. you may overcome this limitation is you change the formula to

    and same for "no".
it is a merged cell so you do not need all 4 cells in your formula. also for the range $C$3 is sufficient

Many thanks for your response, I am a novice at Excel and I am unclear where to enter the formula you suggest, could you please explain further or add to the example file

    Select the dropdown cell
search for and Select "Conditional Formatting" on the menu (i do not remember where to find in Excle2010 :-/) --> "Conditional Format Manage opens"
    you will see both rules
select one and "edit rules" - you will see different possibilities and the selected one ("Format only cells that contain")
change to the last one ("Use a formula ...") and put in the string into the textbox

repeat it for the second one and exchange yes/no
