What steps did you take to turn on protection? What options did you select? What editing are you still able to do? When you are in the review tab, did the Protect Worksheet button change to Unprotect Worksheet?

When i protect the entire work sheet in the review tab under protect sheet , when i open that sheet again all the titles like home ,data ,insert ,font etc remains disabled but i am able to type or delete in all the cells of that work sheet which has been protected by me earlier...
I unchecked the lock box in formate cells under protection tab
The cells you want to protect should be Locked like this. There should be a square around the Locked option.

If the cell is not locked, the menu looks like this:

Then when you protect the sheet, it should look like this:

I HAVE A CHECK BOK IN 'D' IF I SELECT "BILL.NO" I SHOULD BE ABLE TO ENTER IN THE DAT 'F' ONLY(i.e under bill amount)
and it should restrict me to enter in 'G' (i.e the received amount)
and similarly if i select from the check box in 'D' the "payment.no" option it should restrict me to
enter the data in in F (i.e bill amount).

Go to FILE, INFO, Protect Workbook and set protection there
