trying to save time with quoting a cell reference rather than typing it in formula

Hi guys

qUCIK QUESTion about cell references and formulas. I need to get through a lot of data and hoping there is a short cut

In column A I have (example) words like this:

A2 Bat
A3 Ball
A4 Boy
A5 Boat

In column B/cell B2, I want to setup a countif formula (B2 onwards), but instead of adding in each word everyitme, can I setup a formula to quote "A2" and then quote "a3" etc.?

I'm not sure what you mean by "quote" but let's assume you mean "reference." Also no idea what you're counting. But yes. For example in B2

and copy down. This gives you the count of how many times the word on that row appears in the column C.
