    Conditional Formatting

Ok, it's probably very simple to do, but I'm having some trouble.
I have a worksheet of numbers, each day I add a new column of numbers.
I would like to format the new data entered so if the number is less than the previous column the background is red, if it is more than the previous column the background is green, if it is the same, than no background color.
When I tried to use conditional formatting, the new column keeps referencing the number in the first column, not the one previous.

    Thanks

You know what columns/cells you are working with, we don't. Post a sample workbook. See the yellow banner.

    OK, sample attached.
I changed the background color manually.
This is what I'm trying to do automatically as I enter the numbers.
    Thanks

    Re: Conditional Formatting

Select cells B1:E1 and down to the bottom of your data. You need to have two conditions. Use the formula =B1<A1 as the condition for red and =B1>A1 as the condition for green.

    Re: Conditional Formatting

    TMS,
    Thanks for the response.
Will this change the color based only on the value in the previous column and not the value in the first column.
So if the value in column 10 is greater than the value in column 9, the background would be green, if it is less than column it would be red.
So the background color would be based only on the value of the PREVIOUS cell.

    Thanks

Yes. Did you not try it? Select all the data except column A and apply those conditions.
