Creating complicated VLookUp

Hi, first post here. Trying to make a formula that returns the sum of some numbers under a heading between two dates on a seperate worksheet. For example, a formula that gives the sum of money spent on food between two dates from a separate table.

I can create a vlookup to show individual values from a separate table but I cannot do the sum over the range.

Please help!
