    Multiple Choice Conditional Format

    Hi,

    I've searched and seem to be unable to find a case that mirrors my requirement. I've been working with conditional formatting in Excel 2003 to highlight cells with specific text. My struggle is when I want to format the cell based on a multiple variables.

    For example:

    make the cell green when the contents are the text Pink, Blue or Red (Any one of the three). Is there a way to have a formula or a way to write in the conditional format that will allow me to have multiple options for a specific format?

    I can't just use the 3 conditional formats as I need the other two to perform other formatting tasks.

    Any help would be sincerely appreciated.

    You can use the OR() function...

    e.g. =OR(A1="Pink",A1="Blue",A1="Red")
    Where there is a will there are many ways.

    thanks for the suggestion. How would I modify the specific cell references if I wanted to have the same set of conditional format apply to an entire column?

    Thanks,

    Dave

    You can copy/paste special >> formats to the other cells in the column, the cell reference will automatically update.

    Or you can select the entire column or range and then invoke the CF dialogue and enter the reference of the cell at the top left most position in the range... the reference will adjust for each cell in the range...

    that is perfect! 4 hours of working on this silly problem solved with 10 minutes on the forum. Thanks very much.

    To format all cells not equal to my variables would I change the OR to NOT?

    Re: Multiple Choice Conditional Format

    How do you set it up to highlight if the text does not match?
