Is there a trim R and L function on cells

I have a bunch of reports that I need to break down and eventually get into a DB as separate rows and colums. The only electronic version of the reports I can get is txt file. The coloumns are all made of of 8 or 10 digit numbers, so if I copy them into excel I can then at least get the data into columns. If there is a trim right or trim left function for cells in a column it would make my life much simpler.

If you open the .txt file from within XL itself you should get presented with the ImportWizard ... from there you can determine your field widths etc and/or use Delimiters to split the data however you see fit before it's placed directly into XL directly.

Not sure what you mean, not something I have ever heard of. Enclosed is a sample of what I am trying to do in it's most basic form.

    example.xls

I should have waited a few more minutes before posting. I never would have thought you could open a txt file that way.

Select the column, do Data > Text to columns, tick Delimited, Next, tick Space, tick Treat consecutive delimiters as one, Finish

Just being able to open the txt files into excel made my day, thought it was going to be a lot of cut and paste
