How to delete a specific column ?

I have watched some videos but cant find the answer. How can I delete only specific numbers from a text file ?
I have a large text file with ...
    9 http://www.etc...

How can i delete the single column of the number "9" from thousands of lines. It wont let me. When i try to delete the column after highlighting the column "A" and it has the marching ants, when i delete it, everything on the page disappears. I know little about excel but its not very intuitive.
    Thanks...

Click GO ADVANCED and use the paperclip icon to attach your Excel file or your text file, we can look at together. I'm going to guess all your data is in one column, not several, even if it appears that way.

I was able to import your text file into excel using a fixed width delimeter and it put all the numbers in the first column except for the first row and the balance of the file in the second column.

This may be easier than trying to cut and paste and then run some formula to separate them.

Thank you for trying but I guess I was not clear on what I was asking for. I need all numbers and data before the http:// .........REMOVED from the file. Not reorganized etc...

When I imported your text file to Excel, I was able to do exactly as you asked. Perhaps you should post your Excel file and not your text file if that is where you are having difficulty. Perhaps when you do that, demonstrate in your file what you have and on a second sheet what you want as you are having difficulty in communicating clearly your wants and needs clearly.

Did you try what I said I did or did you just dismiss my answer.

Ok sir, I don't know how to be more simplistic and clear than what i just asked. Thanks anyway, I will look elsewhere.

Hi Bobster, sorry I've been away from the thread for awhile.

So, in your text file, you want to take lines like this:

Please Login or Register to view this content.

    and turn them into:
Please Login or Register to view this content.

...then save the file back out the original filename?

I can see ways of doing that by hand, or by a macro. Is a macro OK?

Here's a macro embedded into a generic file you can use to process any txt file of your choosing. Give it a try. You can use the D14 cell to list your "default" starting path to present to you, or not.

Yes sir thats exactly what i wanted. I dont know what macro is. I want to know how to do it for myself so next time i can do it. When I opened the file in excel, I tried to delete the column containing only the "10) pr4.... but when i hit delete, everything on the page would disappear. I tried to use note pad ++ and it wouldnt allow me to highlight only what i wanted to delete. It would highlight the whole line all the way across.

Yes it seems to work. Excel does not seem to be simple to use even for something as simple as what i wanted to do. I do not work with it hardly at all so i know nothing about it. Im sure its great if you know what youre doing. But for me im not impressed cause i still dont know how to do the very thing i was asking to do. Anyway, thanks for the help. good day to ya!
