    Getting data from workbooks that aren't open

    Hello all,
    I have a problem I'm struggling to solve.

    The attached workbook links data from several workbooks in the same folder. They have to be in seperate workbooks to integrate with some of our school systems.

    Example of the COUNTIF and the directory is

    I want to pull in some data from each of the workbooks to do some analysis, but I cannot seem to get the data unless the workbook is running.

    Does anyone have any VBA that can retrieve data within a range in a closed file?

    The old Excel Macro 4 language could do that - but they need to be open now, unless you could use API's???
