How to Open Edit Mode from Sharepoint site

I ran into several internal sharepoint links with docx.
Instead of opening up and see YELLOW POPUP EDIT DOCUMENT:

It just went straight open up the document. Able to edit but couldn't not save, only to save as.
Had to alternately go directly to the folder/link and choose edit with microsoft word from drop down.

Is there a fix for this?

Since it's sharepoint/words related, I hope this is OK posting for help here.

I'm having similar results with some of my sharepoint documents.

I'm fairly certain it's a setting issue with the document library, but I'm not certain.

Hopefully, another reader has some insight for both of us!

Most likely this problem is occurring due to a problem with the SharePoint configuration and/or your network setup. Nevertheless, you might try repairing the Office installation (via Start > Windows Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features > Microsoft Office (version) > Change > Repair).
