Can some one shade some light on this please?
Why I am suddenly being blocked from accessing this site using IE, but can access it on Fire and Chrome?

Hi
I think I may have an idea what is going on..._... ( al least for me... but if you ( AB33 ) have*** never changed these settings... then it might not be your problem ...) Edit: he did, it was, it is solved now for AB33
_....A while back, the Forum had its MIME thing messed up, apparently....
_.. apparently a MIME is what is sent to the browser with a file to tell it what file kind to expect_.. the result of that is that is that in Internet Explorer some of us got a wierd .PHP format extension on downloaded files..... What we had to do to overcome that problem was to adjust some compatibility thingy.....

What I am guessing is that somewhere along the way the Tech team or whoever may have had a fiddle and fixed ( or rather broke it differently ) so things have changed again.
I just had a little experiment...
This is the situation as me, ( you (AB33) may be not ** ?? ) , and I guess a few others are, having changed our compatibility settings ( KompatibilityModusIE.JPG http://imgur.com/mepynEd ) so that we got downloads to come down with the correct extension:

_...
What I then done just now is changed back the settings to as they were before some of us changed the settings to overcome the download problem ( I took excelforum.com out of compatibility view thingy ).... and ..... BINGO.... I am no longer blocked AND downloads are working normally

Edit: seems like it is the problem solved for AB33 ... for now...

Edit Again :Yes all is well, for AB33 ...”.....
https://www.excelforum.com/excel-pro...ml#post4624139 .......". I have access AND Files download with the correct extension....”
..( we are a bit concerned that something may occur again and we are curious as to what happened... but I expect the Tech Team are not sure themselves and may have been and will continue to experiment. )

Just want to say that taking the Forum out of compatibility view mode in IE also worked for me as I was also blocked by Sucuri when using IE (was still fine with Google).
Strange thing was the security warning thought I was using Mozilla not IE

If my solution worked (or not) please let me know. If your question is answered then please remember to mark it solved

I think a few people put into compatibility view mode in IE a while back - I remember telling a few people to do it to get the download extensions coming down right. So I expect a few will be naffed off when they can't get access..
No matter, the TT will probably have a tinker again and brake it a bit differently next week to keep us guessing.
That’s what we like most about EF, don’t we.. Was Wodge ..
( I think the sucuri warnings often mention Mozilla ... like my first screen shot above ... I think I always get a reference to Mozilla on any of the usual sucuri crap that comes up ( I only have Google Chrome ) and I E )
EDIT:- I have asked AB33 to change the Title to include "Internet Explorer" so as to help people with the same problem catch this Thread

Hi Alan,
I think there is underlying issue with the site. If I open the thread from a link, despite, it opens the page, I can not move up or down the page-the page freezes. If I open it from the site, there is no issue; so there is fundamental question which has not being addressed by the TT- why are only some members have this issue, but not others?
I can not edit any of my post.
With regards to not being able to edit posts, as a moderator I occasionally have to edit other peoples' posts, and sometimes, out of the blue and for no apparent reason, one will open blank in the editor and I can do nothing with it. This happened only yesterday when I was removing unnecessary quotations from a series of posts made by one member in one thread - there was one of his posts that just opened blank, but all the rest were fine. There was nothing unusual about it. Weird!

Hi AB33
I am sorry to hear that you are still having problems. It sounds like you are having a number of different issues.
What version of Internet Explorer are you using ? I have found that for older versions of Internet Explorer there are always increasing problems. I have IE 8 IE 9 and IE 11
IE 11 I have rarely any issues.
IE 9 is sometimes slow, and occasionally things do not appear correctly
IE 8 is almost unusable for me. There are many issues. It has got progressively worse as time has gone on.
I think for the earlier version less and less care is taken to ensure that things are compatible. So as time goes on, more and more things are added and changed that may cause issues with the older versions.
I think the issue regarding access Problems with Internet Explorer is solved by taking the Forum out of compatibility view mode.
It sounds like you are having some additional problems.
Sometimes you are unlucky. I was too:
Some time ago I had issues with Google chrome on one computer. I could not Edit. I could sometimes reply, but some icons were missing. ( http://www.excelforum.com/the-water-...ml#post4581956 ) I got no help , but after a week or so , the problem cured itself.
I think if you rely on just one computer, and one Browser, than you can be unlucky and an issue will arise with Excel Forum that will affect you badly. Sorry it is happening to you just now.
( P.s. I am sure you know about this , AB33, but for anyone else having any problems... make sure you refresh and clear the cache regularly: Sometimes a problem can be fundamentally solved, but if you do not refresh / clear the cache, then you may not notice )

Hi Ali,
AB33 is likely having an issue concerning the Forum Software setting regarding Browser compatibility
I suspect your issue is related to an old ExcelForum problem..
There is an issue with contents disappearing when trying to do things like Edit or Reply. It has been a problem at Excel Forum since long before most of us were here.
https://www.excelforum.com/exceltip-...ens-when_.html
The problem is very inconsistent. It will happen in some Posts, other not. Sometimes it will happen one day or at some time in a post, and then the next day or later not.
It has a tendency to happen more often for longer posts. So as you might image it happens a lot to me.. Lol.. It happens more often than not with me.
Some people who mostly do short posts have probably never experienced it.
I use the work a rounds by instinct.
Mostly I do not bother to see if the contents disappear: I assume with my posts that they probably will. So first, I Hit Reply With Quote. Then Copy all between the Quote tags. Then I abort the Reply With Quote ( without replying!! ) .
I then have a back up copy of the Post in the Clipboard which I can paste in, should it occur that the contents disappear when trying to do something like Edit ( The only slight problem with this workaround is that you may lose any quotes in the original post ). Very occasionally, the Window will empty when hitting Reply With Quote . But this is very rare. If it does happen, then if you have another attempt it will usually be OK the second time around. The "copy from between the Quote BB Code Tags" solution / work a round has never failed me, and I expect I have edited many tens of thousands of times
EDIT:P.s.
@ Ali, Perhaps you can edit the Title of this Thread ( as AB33 is unable to ) to include Internet Explorer. - I expect in the next few days the issue will come up a bit as people who added ExcelForum to compatibility view for Internet Explorer a few weeks ago will now find they have no access using Internet Explorer.

Hi Alan,
If you ask web developers of their worst nightmare- it has to be IE. They can relatively with ease can work with most browsers, but not IE. Why? Not only there are many versions, but also one object which works with one version might not work with a different version, so they spend lots of time adjusting their code. MS has completely lost the trick on IE, not even the much fan fared Edge can do any trick. So, I can understand developers face when tried to juggle with different browsers. Where I am lost and could not find any reasoning is why are these issues with some members only. I have FF and Chrome, so I can easily switch, but still curious to find out for this bizarre behavior.
Just passing interest.. In Internet Explorer 8, I can currently access just about any Excel Forum or Blog site.
The one exception... you guessed it. ..ExcelForum. I cannot access ExcelForum in internet Explorer 8. ( Changing compatibility view mode makes no difference )
On one of the other sites you post on they had a similar issue and as far as I remember it was to do with certain errand HTML characters on their site.
Not saying it is the same issue (especially as this site normally has HTML blocked) but it might be worth asking one of the Mods there (maybe Rory) about it as they seemed to be able to fix the posts.
Hi AB33 ,
IE 8 was still working for me a few days ago. Possibly the fact that it suddenly does not is evidence that the T T are fiddling with things again.
( What version of Internet Explorer are you using )
Alan
Hi Alan,
11
Well, I do not even know which version I have for Chrome or FF. They seem to work seamlessly. I lost counting how many versions have been released by MS.
