    Everything is now a PHP file / Windows 7 & Windows 10

I've had problems downloading files to my Windows 10 system at home. First it downloaded the file as the subject of the article instead of the attachment name. Then it worked for a while and now every download is attachment.php which I have to rename manually.

OK that's Windows 10, it's been out for about 18 months and the forum hasn't quite caught up to it.

Downloading attachments used to work on my Windows 7 computer at work until this week. Now it, too, downloads everything as attachment.php.

This makes me less inclined to help people on the site. Is there anything that can be done to make downloads work properly again?
One spreadsheet to rule them all. One spreadsheet to find them. One spreadsheet to bring them all and at corporate, bind them.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but a sample spreadsheet is more likely to be worked on.

They work for me in Firefox on Windows 10, but all you have to do is download the file and then manually change the extension from .php to .xls or .xlsx or .xlsm as appropriate.

It is not a show stopper, but it is an annoyance especially when it used to work.

As I have said, it does work for me. Which browser are you using?

IE-11. I don't have a choice at work since we have a lot of legacy programs we have to test. So it's set as my default browser. I could copy / paste the links I get in email into another browser but that seems to be about as much hassle.

I'm in the process of switching to Chrome at home.

Edge won't be on the table until it grows up

I just did a test in Chrome - it works well there.

Re: Everything is now a PHP file / Windows 7 & Windows 10

I thought I was the only one who is experiencing this issue, but not so. Out of a blue, when i try to open an excel file in excel forum, using IE -11, the file is turned into php. I thought this is weird. I have not changed my setting. I do not have any issue using FireFox or Google.
since this weird behavior, I stopped using IE, as I can not download excel files. I do not have any issue downloading excel using IE from Yahoo.
I am on my last leg with IE. This browse belongs to history.

IE is Microsoft's attempt to move everyone over to Edge.

There are two possibilities: The forum changed something or there was a Microsoft "patch" to IE that now makes it incompatible.

I have now tested IE on two sites where I downloaded excel files with no problem. Converting excel files in to php must be this site's problem.

Other posters have reported this recently. I think one was able to solve it by changing the Compatibility Settings in IE11.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi dflak

This happened to me earlier in the week in IE11. Apparently there was an update and Compatibility View was disabled for Excel Forum. Re-enabled Compatibility View and all was well.

Yes, that was the issue. I had the site listed for compatibility but somehow it got de-listed (got to love Microsoft). I re-listed it and it's now working again. Thanks for the tip!
