Forum doesn't "remember me', except that it does.

The last few days, when I navigate to the site. It asks me to log in with my password. I do so and click the RememberMe option. But the next time I come here, it asks again.

That's not the weird part. The weird part is, if instead of logging in, I click to read a thread, the forum suddenly recognizes me and give me my notifications and subscriptions and all. Its as if the first sheet (regardless of what sheet it is) doesn't recognize me, but all subsequent sheets do.

Forum doesn't "remember me', except that it does. Probably someonne experimenting again :)

Hi

Mostly these things tend to be something to do with the cache or cookies settings.
Often they are Browser dependant.
But
_1) I have noticed recently that I am logged out slightly more often automatically than I used to be.

_2) Occasionally in attempting to reply I am logged out and/ or left with a blank screen when attempting to re log-in. ReplaLoggedOut_LogIn_BlankScreen.JPG http://imgur.com/pbQTyLY . In such cases a bit of quick re navigating and / or / if necessary re logging in gets me there !!
( _2b) Here a newish Problem: After re logging in sometimes ..... I am logged in but I do not get redirected to Settiings if I was originally trying to get there ..... sounds something similar to mikerickson problem: I am loggesd in, but cannot get to Settings ***first time around.. , - which normally is a problem only when not logged in! -- ( ***Renavigating there gets over the problem ) )
RedirectNotWorkingAnymoreAfterLogIn.JPG http://imgur.com/QsuIC46

_3) recently the first attempt at Logging in sometimes Fails even if I am certain I used the correct password and user name. The second attempt usually works.

_4) occasionally, only one of the two ways to log-in works, and also I have to experiment with the remember me check boxes until I find a combination that allows me to log in.
( By the way, : Here the two ways:- LogIn2Ways.JPG http://imgur.com/BJr3n9i )

But this last , _4 ) is very rare at ExcelForum, and I only noticed it at all just recently.

( This latter problem , _4) , was a big problem for me at MrExcel for a long time, until I changed some settings to do with cookies / cleared the cache etc... but I do not remember exactly what I needed to do.. )

But appears to be no major problem at ExcelForum yet, - as with mikerickson , it seems to all be a bit dependant on how / where you link to, and often something works the second time around..... usually I can easily find a way "in"

I expect that Probably someone is having a little play again with the Forum Software
I am not sure if a Google translation in Hindi of "... If it 'aint Broke , .. then don't try to fix it.." would come across very well.. lol :-) .

Mike, I will push this to the tech team, see if they come up with anything
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you

This just happened to me at work.
I browsed to http://www.excelforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=3
The screen was asking for my log-in
I clicked on a thread and when the thread appeared, I was logged in without having to enter anything.

Re: Forum doesn't "remember me', except that it does.

_ One of the unusual characteristics, ( _2b) from post #3 ) has not occurred for about a day or so now.
_ I am definitely noticing that I need to log in more often, ( but I am hving now no problems in doing so - It does not tell me anymore that am not authorised because I am not logged in, even though I am / was , as it had beemn for the last week or so... .... )

This suggest to me once again that someone is / , has, been having a bit of a fiddle with the software, but that they have not managed to break anything badly yet. I am sure we can rely on them to continue to do their best..... ( to break something I mean ... Lol ... .. )

EDIT: 29.03.2017
The unusual characteristics, ( _2b) from post #3 ) is back again
Never mind
Not worth putting too much thought to second guessing who is messing about with, and what they are doing to , the Forum Software.

Hi
This is purely an observation. It is no problem at all. It just demonstrates one of the quirks along the lines of those recently reported in this Thread. Here I tried to Log in. It was successful. I am Logged in. It tells me, however, that the Log In attempt failed. No matter. I ignore that. I click on Settings, Forum or whatever and I am successfully linked to whever I wanted to go
