ISSUE - download file extension error

Yesterday for the first time I encountered a problem with downloaded file extension.
The thread showed file as .xls
The file when it arrived was .xlsx
The file would not open - Excel did not recognise it
BUT when extension changed to .xls the file miraculously opened

I now find that Special-K has also been unable to open files recently. Possibly same issue.

Is the forum download process defaulting the extension to .xlsx?
    Can this be fixed?

    thanks

    Hi kev
I think the tech team either have mucked about with, or can’t get the download extension to always come down right. It varies with Browsers. The download process often defaults in an interesting way .... Check these recent Threads out:

    Hi Alan
Thanks for making me realise that I am not alone.....
It must be a nightmare with all the different versions of all the different operating systems and all the different versions of all the different browsers etc...
I guess we are all to blame because we refuse to move collectively like a herd of sheep......

It’s all Kyle’s fault for not learning HindI

    Hi Kev,
Relatively speaking the Forum software has been working fairly well over the last couple of months
One of the major problems remaining is that the site is still blocked by some security software due to earlier problems. This has shut out or greatly reduced the participation of some regulars.
Having said that, it seems that some regulars are coming back again, and it is nice to see we have a nice diversity of different Human species and are not all just a herd of sheep :-). - It gives the Forum a nice character.

We had a similar problem with .png Files broken for some browsers. If you scroll down the Off Topic Sub Forums ( Suggestions for Improvement , The Water Cooler ) you will see that it was a major source of irritancy.
However, it was finally solved very quickly...
If you go through those Threads on the extension problems you get the feeling the solution is probably also simple.
It seems to be a major problem in communicating the simplest info to the Tech Team / Management!
So no need for us to conform to any standard, - Viva la Difference ... ( It would probably help if anyone had an interest in learning to speak and write in Hindi )
