ExcelForum Exclusive. No access In Internet Explorer 8 ( or 7 ) ( At least for me? )

    Hi
This is not a big issue for me, I am mainly bringing it up in case anyone out there is “locked out”. (I believe there are still a few people relying on just on Internet Explorer 8 to access ExcelForum )

For about two weeks I cannot access ExcelForum on Internet Explorer 8 ( I tried on a couple of computers. They have Windows XP – I believe that is the reason they use Internet Explorer 8 ) ***I checked my compatibility view mode, and that has no effect

I can access just about every other Forum and Blog site with Internet Explorer 8, Excel and others.
These sort of issues are often unique to ExcelForum

Strangely I can access ExcelFourm through a Proxy Site Provider. But a) that also seems to be blocked after a while, b) I think it is unwise to log–in when accessing through a Proxy as I believe they will have your password stored. --- https://www.excelforum.com/the-water...ml#post4181324

I would not think it is just an issue with me or my IP address for example. – I have no problem currently with access to ExcelForum on Internet Explorer versions 9 and 11
If anyone else has Internet Explorer 8, then I would be interested to hear if they are having problems ( assuming they are not unfortunately limited to only Internet Explorer 8 and are having the problem so cannot access – which is my main reason for starting this Thread. )

Might be worth passing this Internet Explorer 8 issue info on to the Tech team, for the sake of anyone that may be “shut out” currently due to this issue.

***P.S. This is not directly , ( although who knows maybe indirectly ) related to the other issue, - Compatibility view mode issue with Internet Explorer ( all versions ) . - This issue is, I think, Solved for now : https://www.excelforum.com/suggestio...ml#post4623993

Re: ExcelForum Exclusive. No access In Internet Explorer 8 ( At least for me? )

IE8 is an old version of the browser riddled with security vulnerabilities, so I do not think that the tech team, who have moved these forums over to the https protocol, will be too worried about a tiny number of people who might still be using an old, unsafe browser when there are so many safer options out there. Just my opinion, of course!

EF Exclusive. No access In Internet Explorer 8 ( or 7 ) ( At least for me? ) Poor Abdhul

    Hi,
I know that this is understandably of even less interest to most, but I just noticed a couple of things in passing:
_ I powered up an old machine of mine, that actually has Internet Explorer 7 on it. I was quite surprised that some old web scrapping codes ( all using old Internet Explorer code stuff ) powered up and worked great straight away, and all Forums, Blog sites were more or less accessible ( with some limitations or slight distortions) .. except... you guessed it ExcelForum, which was totally inaccessible .
_ Regarding the Internet Explorer 8 issue: Something has changed. I can now access ExcelForum provided I use a Proxy site. Strangely however, a visit is not registered. That is usually the case, even when you use a Proxy site. So someone is fiddling with things again!
There were recently some problems with Internet Explorer 11, ( https://www.excelforum.com/suggestio...ml#post4623993 ) , so I guess there is a chance that there may be some problems there again, as the events suggest ExcelForum Tech Team or whoever are fiddling, as they frequently appear to.
Once again the problems, as far as I can tell are unique to ExcelForum: As far as I can see all other Forums, Blog sites etc. appear to be accessible on Internet Explorer 9

But I note the point that as time goes on, things generally are not supported and start not working on the older Browsers. Bu the inaccessibility I have reported with ExcelForum still seems somewhat unusual and rather drastic, suddenly being totally inaccessible. It has been my experience that things usually get progressively worse in the Internet Explorers rather than suddenly completely inaccessible, as appears to be the case here.

I am not restricted myself to Internet Explorer, although I would prefer to use it, especially on my older Machines.

Note: on older machines with older Operating systems, as far as Internet Explorer is concerned , one is restricted to Internet Explorer version 8 for XP and version 9 for Vista. ( I have not experienced any problems with Google Chrome on XP. With Vista, I occasionally have some strange text vanishing or format changing problems, but they go away when restarting the Browser usually )

There is a discussion thread on choice of browsers. ( https://www.excelforum.com/the-water...you-use-2.html ). Clearly some members were using Internet Explorer, versions 8 and 9 at the time, all be it a year or so ago.

There might be Members with older machines, who, for whatever reasons, may be restricted to Internet Explorer. ( There are certainly members that prefer to use it )
The purpose of me bringing the issue up was for the sake of a few who may therefore be shut out from ExcelForum, as a consequence of the Internet Explorer issue. Considering that the solution probably involves some simple adjustment , ( as most other Forums do not have the issue ) , I thought it was woth bringing the thing up just for a few that might be shut out***.. I do not myself have a problem with access currently.
Of course, thinking positively, if ExcelForum is blocking Internet Explorer 8 and 9 for security issues when other do not, then we can be happy and joyful that our lovely ExcelForum is helping keep us safe when others are less careful.. Thankyou, EF, I think we love you.. x

    *** P.s.
I am only posting all this for the sake of Abduhl sitting in the Indian Desert next to his tent.
He has an old computer and that has Internet Explorer on it. ( His old Operating system only supports up to Internet Explorer 8 ) . It always did have Internet Explorer 8 on it, since he found his only computer amongst the Old Electronic Rubbish we dump next to his village
Google Chrome or other Browsers may or may not work on it, he wouldn’t know.
One of the last contacts he still had to the Excel world was ExcelForum. All the other Forum’s banned him after he couldn’t translate what they were trying to tell him about Code Tags,.. Lol..
He is feeling very lonely and shut out just now. Poor Abdhul.

P.P.s Most of the other Forums and sites still accessible on Internet Explorer 8 have https also , I do not know if that is significant to the issue? I do not reallyknow what all that means... I know some members did push for the move to https a while back : https://www.excelforum.com/suggestio...xcelforum.html

EF Exclusive. No access In Internet Explorer 7,8, 9 ( At least for me? ) IE !! next???

    Hi
Just a quick update here: The last Posts were concerning Internet Explorer 7 and 8

I now find that I can no longer get normal access to excelfoum using Internet Explorer 9. I tried both with and without compatibility Mode as in these screenshots:
    IE9BlockedNoCombatibilityMode.JPG http://imgur.com/GFdhO0b
    IE9SucuriBlockedCombatibilityMode.JPG http://imgur.com/LUbg6P2

If I use a proxy I can get in with Internet Explorer 8 or 9 as long as I do not use compatibility mode
    IE9NotCombatibilityModeThroughProxy.JPG http://imgur.com/ZMuGOXW
With compatibility mode I still have no access even through a proxy.
    IE9SucuriBlockedCombatibilityModeThroughProxy.JPG http://imgur.com/c8ruMWq

I prefer Internet Explorer , but I have Google Chrome so it is not a major problem. I just mention it again for the sake of anyone who may be restricted to earlier versions of Internet Explorer, in which case they may now be shut out of Excel Forum.
( Internet Explorer 11 ( not in compatibility mode ) appears still OK….for now!! )

It continues to be apparently unique to Excel Forum. Most other sites are still accessible with Internet Explorer 8 or 9.
Since IE 8 stopped working a few months back , and now IE 9 .. maybe IE 11 will be next
