    Any explanation of "Commercial Services"?

    Is there any explanation on this forum beyond the sentence above?

    Such as:

    How much are the nominal charges? Is it by difficulty of the question or project (Macro)?
    How does one find out?

    Post the question or describe the project and you send it out to someone and they respond with a price?

    Do the experts only reply to specific questions, or is it possible to describe a complicated Macro and get a price from your expert on the charge to build it - or do the experts only answer questions.

    I just tried sending a followup email to admin at the address cited in the link you provided, and got this:

    "This message was created automatically by mail delivery software. A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed: [email protected] Mailbox is full / Blocks limit exceeded / Inode limit exceeded ---------------------------------------------- message/delivery-status..."

    This is the email I tried to send to Admin but their mailbox is full:

    "Hi,

    I have need of a complicated Macro for personal tax work I am doing.

    I have no idea what to pay/how many points to post.

    Rather than posting points blindly, is there any way I can be connected with a Macro expert and I can explain the project and get a price quote?

    Thank you."

    Spending money purchasing points and taking a wild guess at what would be wanted if anyone is willing to do it and then waiting to see if there is a response.
    If not, adding more money and waiting more.
    This just does not seem like an efficient way to deal with this.

    What would make sense would be connecting me with someone expert at macros, explaining the project, finding out if he is willing to do it and if so, what amount of money would be wanted.

    The rate depends on how complex the question(s) is (are), and how much the member offering help, is willing to accept - it can be negotiated. Also, once a value has been agreed to, this can still be increased if it is found that the problem is larger than 1st thought.

    Keep in mind that, while only a small fee is normally requested, if it takes the answer-er an hour to provide a solution, and you offer $10. you are effectively offering $10/hour (barely more than minimum wage lol). That being said, some members answer for the fun of the challenge, and not for the money.

    Also, what you may consider complex, may in fact be relatively simple (and vise versa)
    Perhaps start with 20 points, state your question, and negotiate from there?

    If I understand correctly, I need to spend a minimum of $10 simply to be able to post my project.

    Then I can allot the same $10 to whoever takes the project.
    Correct?

    What if someone takes the $10 and wants more and the amount wanted is more than I am willing.
    Do I get the $10 refunded back to my points if a deal is not reached?

    If a deal is never made, do I get the $10 refunded back to my cc?
    Or is that the cost of posting whether a deal is made or not?

    I would prefer to pay the minimum of $10 to post, allocate that to the project (knowing it won't be sufficient) and make clear when I post that I am open to reasonable offers.

    It's possible as you mention that to someone familiar with Macros it is not as difficult as I think it will be.
    I think the most difficult part will be writing my offer/describing the project so it is clearly understandable.

    You don't so much select who answers your question - only gurus and upwards can answer questions, and whoever feels confident of answering it fully will jump in.

    An answerer will tell you upfront how much this will cost - they don't get anything until you are satisifed with the answer they have given. They won't just say "You will need $40 for this". They will tell you which way they will need to go, and why it will cost this. It is up to you whether you take them on or leave it at that.

    Maybe, maybe not. If an answerer has spent a lot of time deciding which way to go and has provided you with plenty of details, and maybe a sample workbook then he / she is entitled to compensating for that time.

    Diminic makes valid points.

    What I have often seen happen, is the OP (you) offers $10. A member (guru/mod/admin) reads the question, thinks they can help, but feels that $10 is not enough for the amount of ti,e they would need. They would then suggest you offer, say, $50 (or whatever), but you are not OK with the suggested value, so you offer $20. They can then either accept the $20, suggest a different value, or pass and let another member pick up the question.

    How long does it normally take to get a response?

    It's 3 days thus far since I posted in "Commercial Services", and I have a feeling that people who take these commercial projects probably subscribe to this sub and keep on top of new posts.

    If no one can help me here, I'm going to do the work manually, and time is getting short.

    Am I correct that if there is no response by now there will probably not be any?

    Most threads do get picked up withing the first 24 hours, and your post has had over 30 views, so in all honesty, it looks as though nobody is going to take you up now.
    There are a couple of members who spend a lot of time in that sub-forum : it would not be inappropriate to send a quick PM to one or two asking if they're interested.
    Beyond that you would have to ask FDibbins or JBeaucaire (admins) for your points to be returned.

    Posting in the CS section does not guarantee a solution: all it means is that anyone who can help will prioritise your request (deal with it quickly and by themselves) and you will pay them for that help. If those 30 views of your request have resulted in no takers, then you probably need to look again at the way you have presented your request: is it clear what you are after? Do you need to simplify/clarify the brief? Are your attachments easy to follow? Remember: you know what you want, but it might be far from obvious to anyone else. Generally speaking, in the CS forum, people only respond if they are 99% sure they can resolve the issue for you, whereas in the main forum, members are more likely to ask questions to illicit more information from you. Plus the CS section is not visible to all members.
