Unable to upload a zip file that is well within the 9.8MB size limit

Yesterday I tried to upload a workbook lotto.xlsm to thread https://www.excelforum.com/excel-gen...-repeated.html
The attempt was correctly rejected as the workbook was over 4MB in size, larger than the 1MB limit. I then attempted to upload a compressed file using 7Zip, not realizing that 7z was not a supported file type. This attempt too was correctly rejected.

Next I had 7Zip generate a standard .zip file which was 2.0MB in size, well within the allowed 9.8MB limit, and attempted to upload it. This attempt failed with the error "Upload of file failed." Why?

Finally I used Windows 10 to right click on the xlsm file, select "Send to" and "Compressed (zipped) Folder" to generate a zip file This file was 2.3MB in size and also failed to upload with the same error message. Why?

In summary, why did my two attempted uploads of relatively small zip files fail?

1st, if you need to zip a file to upload here, it is probably way more than we really need, and some members wont even bother (or wont be allowed) to open a file that large.

We need just enough representative data in your file to show what you are working with, as well as a FEW samples of expected outcome. Anything in the file that does not directly affect your question - we dont need,
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you

Re: Unable to upload a zip file that is well within the 9.8MB size limit

Ford,

This was a response to a forum member's problem. He required the ability to examine certain properties of 20!/(20-6)!/6! = 38760 combinations of numbers. I thought a compliant answer was better and easier than the less straight forward approach of providing a response capable of dealing with fewer combinations plus steps for how to up-size (although that's what I eventually did).

I understand the need to keep attachments to the bare minimum but if the zip file size limit is smaller than 9MB should the documentation be updated to reflect that?

Geoff
