It certainly seems to be the case. That said, there have been many occasions in the past when I, and many others, have experienced content vanishing when editing a post. Not sure if this is a specific example of that issue or if there are other characters and character combinations that cause this effect.
You seem to have managed it here OK: https://www.excelforum.com/excel-for...summation.html

Yes, but you cannot edit the post afterwards..
Formula for inverse of summation
Well, this will probably be looooong shot, but I figure it's worth a try.
I need an excel formula that inverses of this function:
ƒ(x) =∑(mm+ i)2π2(x-s*i)3, i=0 to k
I need ƒ-1(y)
Now, the best I could manage is hitting the character limit for formulas in excel...
P.S. LaTeX is a truly wonderful invention.
I have copied and pasted the text from that thread, barring the formatting. The issue is that you cannot subsequently edit the content. Even if you were to adopt the belt and braces approach of copying the text (just in case), you then lose any formatting ... as I did above.
I understand what you are saying ... but maybe the content needed to be retyped from scratch.
I cannot edit post #2 or post #6.
Content doesn't need retyping from scratch: you do not need to hit the edit button to copy the original text. That's what I do when this happens to me: copy the text and THEN hit edit, paste and edit, then save.

Perhaps, lacking our experience of the foibles of the forum, the OP was not aware of the options available. However, copying the content, going into edit the post, and then reposting the content before actually attempting to edit it does lose any formatting. Compare the content I copied into post #6 to the original to observe the difference.
I would say so.Perhaps, lacking our experience of the foibles of the forum, the OP was not aware of the options available.
Yes, you lose formatting, I know that, but at least you don't have to start from scratch. You don't, however, lose any attachments.
The reason for making my post was to advise anyone reading this thread for the first time that all is not lost. There's not much value in a thread such as this one unless we point out the workarounds (or 'foibles') for those who don't already know. It's not something that is ever going to be fixed, sadly.
That is quite unfortunate.
In the mean time I have discovered a workaround for not losing anything, even formatting - you just quote the post. The text, formatting and all appears in the "Quick Reply" box, without having any page loads, which is what causes the issue.
Something is broken in the cross-page storage mechanism. The data isn't stored client-side, I checked at DOMContentLoaded, nothing in session/localstorage/cookies or anywhere. There must be something wrong with the server-side, encoding maybe? Prob not with db, since post gets made, handling unicode on php side maybe?
