Why must I provide password again to download some attachments, but not others?

Why must I provide a password again to download some attachments, but not others?

For example, there are two attachments in posting #1 of https://www.excelforum.com/excel-for...ula-error.html .

I can straight-forwardly download the first attachment https://www.excelforum.com/attachmen...-for-error.jpg . Just click Download.

But I am prompted for a password when I click to download the second attachment https://www.excelforum.com/attachmen...-worksheet.jpg .

Obviously, I am already logged in. And I am using the same window to click each Download link.

(IIRC, I am prompted only the first time that I click the second Download in the same window. But IIRC, I am prompted again if I click the second Download in another window, still after having logged in.

Cannot replicate your issue. The first link you show has no downloadable images or files so I don't get this. When I click on either of the .jpg files you reference they open without issue.

Re: Why must I provide password again to download some attachments, but not others?

@alansidman .... Say what?! The 1st link should take you to the thread (discussion). It takes me to posting #1. See the attached image for the correct page.

The attached "thread" image below shows me logged in on the user's thread page.

The attached "prompt" image below shows the new prompt window that opens after clicking the 2nd image Download link on the user's thread page.

As for the image links .... I wonder if the misbehavior has to do with either my browser (Firefox) or my "profile" (anything to do with my login).

I was going to speculate that perhaps we have to click the link in the user's posting.

But even when I click on the 2nd image link in my posting #1 here (3rd link in my posting), I get prompted for a password.

PS.... I might also mention that the prompt-after-login problem is __not__ limited to postings with multiple attachment. IIRC, it has happened when there is only one attachment.

But (speculating....) it only happen the "last" download link. Note that the single link is also the "last" link.

And I should say that it does not always happen. Moreover, IIRC, it is not limited to JPG links. I'm "pretty sure" this has happened with Excel files, as well.

    -----

Anyway, this is not a new issue, BTW. I'm sure I "spoke" (PMed) with someone about this some time ago. But the problem persists -- for how long, I cannot say with impunity. Very many months, for sure. Maybe since before 2020. Wasn't there a major update the forum a while back? If so, it might have started then. (But that might be a different forum.)

Oh well, I just wanted to be sure TPTB are aware of the problem. If it only happens to me, it's just an annoyance.

Not sure what is happening here. Here is a picture of what I see when I open the first link. Also, I am using Chrome as my browser.

Like Alan, I only see a picture but no attachments in the first link. Both jpgs download without issue. And, no matter which route I take to get to that thread, I see the same thing.

@alansidman and @TMS .... Wonderful! I was not aware that there is an option to see images in situ instead of just Download links.

I just set mine. However, sadly, __I__ see only the first image!! Klunk!

So the problem is clearly related to my environment: browser, account state, etc.

@TMS, do you use Firefox, by any chance?

Might be worth the old switch it off, wait, and switch on again. Maybe try clearing the browser cache first.

Ding! Why do I always forgot about doing that?! Oh well, I learned something (the show-image option).

    Thanks for the responses.

Just an aside, I use Firefox and have never been asked to log in again to view an image.
