Goto First New Post No Longer Working

My old computer died so as of yesterday I'm on a new laptop with Windows 7. All other forums behave the CORRECTLY in regard to this issue noted here, except this forum.

The quick link in UserCP that takes me to the first unread post in a subscribed thread no longer works

That link just takes me to the first post of the thread and I have to search trying to figure out what the new posts are. When I get to the thread, none of the posts have the unread moniker on them, so I think something in that link is actually setting those threads to READ as it pulls them up.

The "go to first post" button/link works for me in FF10, but not IE9. In IE9 it takes me to the first post in the thread, same as you're seeing.

Also, I'm unfamiliar with the "unread moniker" on posts within a thread. Maybe I've been missing it for five years, but once you're inside the thread I didn't think you could tell between which posts were read vs. unread.

Sorry I made up my own terms. Yes, the little icon next to the date in the upper left corner seems to be "the thing" that makes it possible for a "goto first unread post" to work.

In the USERCP, if I click the thread title and scroll down, I can see the blue icon to indicate the post is unread:

But in IE9 if I click the little "go to first unread post" link next to the thread title, it opens that thread and sets all the icons to white, none are blue, so it doesn't work.

I never noticed the white vs. blue post icons within a thread before. Weird.

But, as I said, the issue affects IE9 but not FF10. The tech team will obviously need to intervene on this one.

On a similar tack.... if I access a thread using the thread title it takes me to the first screen for that thread and there is a link in the menu bar above that says "View first unread"....

That link works fine if the first unread post is on the same page I'm already on. But if the thread is long and multi-paged, clicking that link takes me to that final page, but stops at the top of that page and does not take you to the "First unread post".... further, that page no longer has a separation in the icons to allow you to spot the new post visually. Clicking into that thread using the "view first unread" seems to make the same mistake as before, as the thread is accessed the thread is marked as "all read" and it loses the ability to finish finding it's target.

I dont know if this is of any use to you JB but where there have been many new posts since you last visited in a thread you will be taken to the first unread new post, so if the last page you looked at was say page 3 and then another page with 5 posts was added since your last visit, then clicking the goto new post icon will take you to post 1 of page 4.

I'm not sure I get what is new about your details, Simon. I'm just going by the behavior these forums taught me over the past 5 years... when I click on the little "go to first new post" icon to the left of the thread titles in the UserCP, it has always taken to that post, whether it was post 1 on page 4 or post 33 in the middle of page 12, it has always gone directly to the actual post.

This new version of the forum does not do that on IE9.

Heh, after 25k posts across 5 forums, I'm pretty sure I've graduated to at least forum life 201.

My fault!, i didnt read it properly that your issue was in the usercp

, how ablout if you click the compatibility icon in IE9, does it behave as expected then? if not then there's an issue with the forum coding, if it does then the tech team need to make adaptations for the use of IE9.
