Changing method of advising OP to mark thread SOLVED

If moderators feel they must tell users to mark threads as Solved, and in the meantime mark it for them, then why not just mark it solved and PM the OP so that we don't have this clutter.

It gets annoying seeing all my threads keep popping back to the top as having new posts only to see that it is a moderator making this comment....
Where there is a will there are many ways.

If you are happy with the results, please add to the contributor's reputation by clicking the reputation icon (star icon) below left corner

Please also mark the thread as Solved once it is solved. Check the FAQ's to see how.

Don't worry NBVC, I got your "this is getting annoying" message. I will not be adding any posts to any threads that contain a post from you.

If you are satisfied with the solution(s) provided, please remember to mark your thread as Solved.

    New quick method:
Select Thread Tools (above first post on page) -> Mark thread as Solved. To undo, select Thread Tools-> Mark thread as Unsolved.

Or you can use this way:
    Go to the first post
    Click edit
    Click Go Advanced
Just below the word "Title" you will see a dropdown with the words "No prefix".
    Change to "Solved"
    Click Save

EDIT: Oh structure-built-by-beavers! Did I just bump this thread up?????? Sorry!

Re: Changing method of advising OP to mark thread SOLVED

I see the issue from a completely different angle.

Being a moderator is trying to find what new members are not branding their threads as "solved", to mark himself while informing them on what to do next time is a very tedious and difficult job and devotes much time for it.

I am sure that goal is better functioning of the forum.
That is the purpose being moderators in a forum.
Agree or disagree with the ownership of this forum in no way should prevent some people from trying to improve some parts of this…

So, some Moderators prefer to have ONLY the name and is completely inactive.
Moderator, does not mean necessarily an expert in Excel.
There it is for other securities. guru, legend and other honorary titles of address.
For me, Moderator means, ACTIVE Moderator.

And active Moderator means, to do something (anything) to improve this forum, in which all participate voluntarily.

Re: Changing method of advising OP to mark thread SOLVED

Moderator's are the teachers on how to use or be in a forum. Teaching is not always telling the student what to do, sometimes you do it for them to set an example.

I think and know that's what Cutter is doing and he's good on that. There are also of regular members that miss some rules and some really can follow everything and contributed to the "job" of advising(moderating) new members on what to do.

Teaching some new members(only few of them) the right thing to do is moderating and perhaps only if all regular members would advise a new member to mark their thread solved then the the precious time of the mods can be used on more important matters.

If we know that we've given the right answer why not tell them to mark it solved so that mod's will not have any comment's as "follow-up". The signature is good but sometimes user's neglect to look at the message on those signatures with some reasons like they got very excited that their two weeks problem was solved within a short time in this forum.

Ya' know...I don't usually follow these "off topic" kind of Threads. For some reason (perhaps because I've become a bit frustrated with the Forum) over the last several months I decided to surf this Thread.

I happen to agree with vlady

Personally, when I see a rules infraction, I'll let the OP know and suggest how to correct the infraction...often I'll further suggest, until the infraction has been corrected to not expect further responses. I think that's part of our responsibility as Members of the Forum. We can have a Forum that's completely open or one with structure.

We're (this Forum) is not the greatest but we have some structure that benefits us all. Let's build on that. There have been a lot of changes in the Forum in just my brief tenure...not all that I've been pleased with.

We (this Forum) are not the greatest but we are the best that's available...let us build on that.

@Cutter...keep up the good work...don't change your style (just yet)
    John

If you have issues with Code I've provided, I appreciate your feedback.

In the event Code provided resolves your issue, please mark your Thread as SOLVED.

If you're satisfied by any members response to your issue please use the star icon at the lower left of their post.

The mods need to interpret the rules correctly and uniformly
    Hope that helps.
