Report post link missing on comment from new user

    In this thread/post ...

    http://www.excelforum.com/word-forma...38#post3358338

... a new user hijacked a question. I'd like to report the post, but the latest comment by the new user does not show the link to report a post. All comments above that latest post _DO_ show the link.

Probably means someone else has already spotted it and reported it as spam.

A post can only be reported once and the option/flag is removed.

Unfortunately, in my experience, there is no feedback from anyone to say what action, if any, has been taken.

I recently reported three of my own posts because the forum was running slow and the system was trying to generate duplicate posts. It was just a heads up that the forum looked as though it was poorly and heading for a crash. No feedback or thank you for any of them, and no visible action taken.

    Kind regards, TMS

    Thanks Trevor. That makes sense.

As a suggestion to the <cough> tech team <sorry, got something in my throat. Too much pickled ginger with the sushi>: Instead of removing the link to report a post, please display a message that shows that the post has already been reported and that no more reports are required. That will make it clear to anyone that no further action is required, instead of removing the functionality to report a post.

If a real life example is required: Imagine a fire breaks out in a multi-storey building. Joe Bloggs on the third floor pushes the fire alarm button. As soon as he does this, all the fire alarm buttons in the other 20 storeys disappear. People cannot find a way to report the fire. Is that helpful? Even if the fire has been reported already, the buttons should still be there so people on other floors can push them. The electronics in the background can take care of avoid multiple reports to the fire brigade, but the poor suckers who are in a burning building will want to have a button to push.

Same goes for the reported post button. It's not as dramatic as a burning building, but please, just leave the command where people expect it to be. If necessary, just use your superior coding skills <cough, darn pickled ginger!> to suppress the execution of the actual report, but don't just remove the button.

    UX anyone?

Ah, now you're being too logical though <try and hear it in your mind with an Irish accent>

I'm guessing the "tech team", well, he's too busy switching off signatures and other busy stuff. My Geordie friends have an expression "full of busy" which I've always quite liked ... as in, "I'm full of busy right now, push off and leave me alone".

I'd hate to be in the parallel universe where you live, if pressing a button makes all the other buttons disappear. Probably a feature of Windows 9.

    Regards, TMS
