Download of file includes much more than the file name

In the last few days I have noticed that downloading an attachment to a message includes more data than just the file title. This has caused problems in that this added data can interfere with subsequent downloads and a cleaner of temporary files is necessary in order to download further files. The temporary files causing the trouble are stored in the hidden AppData folder structure.

This picture shows what is being downloaded. The file name shown in the message was test.xlsx The error is what shows up in Excel

I am also now getting emails for my own posts which I never happened before.

This must be a bad karma week....I should have just stayed in bed.

Email, Download Problems and odd "header" errors

During the last few days I have been receiving emails notifying me of my own posts and receiving at times multiple duplicate emails. The multiple duplicate emails has happened before when everyone else was having trouble but I had never before received emails notifying me of my own posts.

When downloading an Excel file, the file name is including much more information than just the file name. Part of it is the title of the thread, and there is even more than that. This added information in the file name is causing problems at my end that eventually results in the inability to download further in that forum. The problem is in the creation of entries in my AppData folders that should be temporary if they exist at all but evidently are not. I have tested the download of Excel files from other sites and had no problem at all.

At times when typing in the reply area, word wrap doesn't work. I also am getting from time to time an error message about "headers". At other times I get a message to try again in 15 or more seconds (varies). This has lead to duplicate posts.

The temp files seem to have been sorted out (right now) but those file names are brutal.

Problem downloading files from Excel Forum

I am having problems downloading files from Excel Forum. This started a number of days ago and it is consistent, very annoying and making Excel Forum a pain to use. I get errors and these pictures show what I receive on download and trying to load the file into Excel.

I have downloaded Excel files and others from other sites without any problem at all. It is something local to this website.

Does anyone have any idea what is causing this?

THis is what that download link should look like: http://screencast.com/t/vdhAUHZ6bJa9

Note it's just the filename in the popup. Your is displaying a much longer link.

Right-click on the download link and choose COPY SHORTCUT.... what is the URL?
    Mine is: http://www.excelforum.com/attachment...-of-death.xlsx

Re: Problem downloading files from Excel Forum

This is the URL for the file shown in the picture. This might not be the same file as the first one as I just grabbed an example for my question. This URL does match the enclosed picture.

    http://www.excelforum.com/attachment...example-1.xlsx

The example that you gave is what I was used to seeing.

I'm stumped. I tried the link above on my Win8 IE10 computer and my wife's XP IE8 computer and both links work correctly.

Re: Problem downloading files from Excel Forum

You're a genius!! I added Excel Forum to the Compatibility View list and my limited tests indicate that the problem is solved!!

Re: Problem downloading files from Excel Forum

Further investigation has shown that IE11 is the culprit. IE11 is supposed to recognize compatibility problems with sites but it doesn't recognize a problem with ExcelForum, or Yahoo on laptops. To correct this, add ExcelForum.com to the compatibility list and also in IE11 options, Browsing History, Delete, select Preserve Favorite Website data. This will stop IE from deleting the compatibility settings.
