File Download Name assuming Thread Title as File Name Windows 2007

    Hi

I'm transitioning from Windows XP to Windows 2007. In Windows 2007, IE 11, Files I download from the Forum are being saved on my platform with a File Name of the Thread Title.

    See this Link, Post #143
    http://www.excelforum.com/excel-prog...ol-button.html

The File downloaded with this title
    305309d1395171323-adding-additional-goals-and-objectives-in-a-treatment-plan-using-a-form-control-button-hct-rcs-itp-v1.28.xlsm
Anyone have a clue what's happening and why?
    John

Doesn't do that for me in Windows 7 (with Excel 2007).

Maybe it's a "clear the cache" job?

    Hi Trevor

Cleared the cache and browsing history...no luck...same issue. Do you use Explorer...if so, what version?

    No, I use Chrome.

Is this then a case of "compatibility" mode?

I've added the Forum to Compatibility View and that seems to resolve the issue. Problem is, it does not "stick" when I exit Explorer.

I have Windows 7 and EX 11 on another machine and it demonstrates the same behavior. Guess I'll have to switch to Chrome...been fighting that transition for a long time...perhaps it's time to make the move.

    Thanks for your help.

You're welcome. Thanks for the rep.

I think I am only aware of it because of other threads here ... can't remember the details though.

I like Chrome, most of the time

Had to set IE 11 to NOT delete browsing history...then Compatibility View will "stick"...

I've got IE 11, I just don't really use it. Just checked the file name problem and fixed it by adding the EF to the list.

IE 11 is marked not to update automatically ... don't remember setting that.

Ho hum, probably shut it down now and forget about it
