I guess it's time .... Thank you all

In a most unfortunate turn of events, my company has begun blocking websites that allow employees to upload or download files (we work with sensitive data, so that's not unsurprising). This site has been flagged as a potential risk, and as such, will be blocked. Because I rarely get more than 15 minutes of quiet time at home, it's not likely that I'll be back too often. So, I wanted to say thank you again - and yes, I know there is a thank you thread, but dang it I'm special so I put it here instead.

I've learned a tremendous amount from many of you over the years. I often just kind of lurk around and pick up what I can, and periodically try to assist others, though my skills are embarrassing compared to most of yours so I pretty much keep my yap shut.

You guys do an incredible job here - moderators and contributors alike. Thank you for what you do - you've shown me that there are always multiple ways to get something done, there are always ways to make code better, and there really are good people out there who are willing to help if you just know where to go and how to ask.

Take care and keep up the great work. It is not unnoticed or unimportant.

...I actually told the administrators who make these decisions that "all data is sensitive to SOMEBODY" and asked that they put an override in my profile so I can continue to use this wonderful site. I even had my manager send them a request as well. But since I have access to personal data for some financial systems, and am the guy who kinda crashes servers and disrupts db traffic to prove points, they're a bit less than enthusiastic about giving me anything but the most basic access to the most basic info.

Guess being 15 years in QA can give you a bad rep!

Re: I guess it's time .... Thank you all

I too was in QA and Support at a large software retailer, many years back. We had a few AS 400 mainframes to keep inventory of about 90k SKUs. I asked which was our most sold database and was told it would take a few weeks to get an answer as the programmers needed to put it on their schedule. I found Microsoft Access and was able to get my answer in a few minutes. I was immediately put on the "do not allow in the database" list of employees. They also took me off our "internal" network worried that I could cause a crash of some kind as I was using "non standard" types of methods to get answers.

I'm sorry you are running into similar problems.

I... I think I somehow convinced somebody to unblock the site.
Somebody up the security chain listened to reason.

    Hehe, welcome...

So, aren't you supposed to be attaching some sensitive docs for us to review now?
