Bulletin boards for internal company use

What are some of the cleanest and most user-friendly options for company-wide bulletin boards? Free or low cost options preferred.

I've been tasked with researching options for better internal company communication. It would mainly be for posting company outings, changes to office policy and communication between co-workers on projects. phpBB is great, but it seems to be geared toward wider communities.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.

For internal company communication, I'd recommend SharePoint. It's fairly easy to deploy and easy to integrate with Outlook, Excel etc.
Not only does it serve as bulletin board, it can serve as document management, blog, team collaboration etc.

There are quite a few free extensions out there as well.

If you have Server 2012 R2 I'd go with SharePoint Foundation 2013 along with MS SQL 2014 Express.
If you have Server 2008 R2, you may also consider SharePoint Foundation 2010 along with SQL Express 2008 R2.

There is database limit of 4GB/10GB with Express editions, but should be sufficient for most internal communication (as long as versioning is kept to reasonable amount and periodic maintenance/archiving is performed).

Thanks for your advice, CK. We have a blog and a document-sharing program already. Are there solid choices for a bulletin board only program?

It would depend on your requirements.

But there are many Open Source forum/bb software.
    Some examples.
    eXo Platform - https://github.com/exoplatform/platf...-distributions
    FUDforum - http://fudforum.org/forum/
XenForo - https://xenforo.com/ (forgot to mention this one is not free. Though cheap)

Advantage of SharePoint I find are ease of implementation, integration (with Office suites, Power BI etc) and good community resource.
