Sucuri blocking avatar.

Not a huge deal, but figured I'd post the issue.

Finally reached 'Forum Contributor' level (have 130 posts and have been member since 2012), so I proudly went to upload an avatar (50x50) and got this warning:

Sucuri.jpg

Done the whole clearing cache and resetting Firefox thing, but no go. Tried with IE 11, still no go.

My apologies. Just noticed the "Forum for Issues" after I posted this here. Maybe the site admins can move it?

Re: Sucuri blocking avatar.

this is a rule for avatar: Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 50 by 50 pixels or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller)
and forum rule:
- Forum Contributor: 60 days and 100 posts...you will be able to upload a non-animated avatar.

Requirements...
- Forum Contributor: 60 days and 100 posts...you will be able to upload a non-animated avatar.
(you meet both of those requirements)
- The maximum size of your custom image is 200 by 200 pixels or 195.3 KB (whichever is smaller).
What size is your avatar, and is it non-animated?
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools

I can see no obvious reason from our side that would prevent this. Maybe try uploading as a picture, instead?

Re: Sucuri blocking avatar.

Here's the jpeg file I'm trying to upload:
Running Dog_50px.jpg
It's 16KB & it's 45 by 48 pixels.

Just to confirm the process, I'm going to "Edit Profile", then clicking on "Edit Avatar", then clicking on "Use Custom Avatar", then using option #2 and uploading this file.

Re: Sucuri blocking avatar.

You often have to fiddle around a bit with sizes. Often sizes that should work do not. It is just another excelforum software anomaly- Sucuri blocks an avatar sometimes for no apparent reason.
You just have to experiment a bit, especially resizing, - reduce the size a bit and often it will work:
See this thread: https://www.excelforum.com/the-water...ml#post4643577
Sometimes you just have bad luck and a particular Avatar is always blocked. Something in it that the kicks in the firewall.
It varies a lot from time to time as the Tech team often experiment and change things without telling anyone. Often you find an Avatar that previously worked no longer does, at least for a while!

Why should you upload a 2.78 MB .xlsb file ???

I'm glad it isn't accepted.

Re: Sucuri blocking avatar.

But I'm not glad.
xlsm has 9.77 - allowed is 1 MB so xlsb has 2.78 MB - allowed is 10 MB.
I want to use what I can

Hi Sandy, Hi Ford, (Hi snb)
Regarding file upload failing
I have mostly experienced problems with uploading larger files near the size limit..
I think some systems calculate file size a bit differently, so larger files possibly might be “measured” as a bit too large by the excelforum system, whilst they might be measured as within the limit on other systems.

More often smaller files are wanted, so I expect not many people will experience the problem.
I agree that OPs should keep sample data to a minimum, but I am not glad that larger files cannot be uploaded. Sometimes the larger limit in .xlsb has been useful to me.

I think I only occasionally have had a problem with a smaller file uploading, for example in this Thread
https://www.excelforum.com/developme...ml#post4675610
In that thread in the post referenced , you will see that I have a .xlsb file of approx 2MB which failed to upload.
I only noticed such problems with smaller files recently. So , once again, it is possible that the Tech Team are playing around.

When I get such a problem I use one of the free File sharing sites. This one works ( box ) well for me:
https://app.box.com/signup/personal
(_ .Remember to select Share after uploading and give the link they provide if you use that )
But Note: a lot of people can’t / won’t download a File from an external site. So this method is not preferred here at excelforum, but it is a useful alternative when the uploader fails
I have never experienced a problem using box

File attachment possibility continues to be a distinguishing characteristic at excelforum, compared to the other main Excel Forum, Mr Excel. ( ** ) . I personally like to keep as much as possible in the Thread. I am a great fan of the Tools that produce a screenshot that can be copied to a file. Just a personal preference
But there are occasions when a File is helpful. Also, for some members who try to help, they cannot speak English too well, so are only able to give a short description to their offered solution. For them the ability to give a file is very helpful.

Alan

( ** P.S. If you happen to pass by MrExcel, - Be kind, - please don’t use the word “attachment” under any circumstances. – There are some great helpers there, but just the use of the word “attachment” seems to cause them serious mental health problems…

Re: Sucuri blocking avatar.

Just thought I'd post an update:

After quite a bit of playing around with file size and pixel count, I was never able to upload my jpeg image as an avatar.

However, as soon as I converted the same jpeg to a gif, whammo, instant upload and I now have an avatar. --> --> -->

Re: Sucuri blocking avatar. Love you EF, you cute thing :). Love letter on EF

Thanks for the update, Big.Moe

Now that you mention it, and looking back, I came to the same conclusion here:
https://www.excelforum.com/developme...ml#post4284020

At the time, we had a problem generally in Internet Explorer with most things in .png but not .jpeg.
So it was a bit of a quirky exception back then.
In the meantime , the .png problem generally has been solved , and when I updated to an animated Avatar I got .jpegs to work eventually after a bit of experimenting and trial and error. So I forgot about that a .png had worked when a .jpeg didn’t. So I neglected to mention that, apologies for that..

Looks like our “workaround advice” for non Animated Avatars is :

Experiment a bit with things like sizes, ( you may have a better chance of success with a .png)
( It is often Browser dependant , ( and dependant on what playing around someone is doing with the Forum software, ) so you cannot be totally precise.
)

It is strange , but I have grown fond of these little excelforum unique erratic anomalies.
_.... I just spent 3 weeks renovating with the neighbour his house wall. It would have taken a week but he is a total idiot and I need twice as long to correct what he messes up… But I have some how grown close to loving him and his imperfections in these last weeks….
_.. It is a similar sort of thing with excelforum, I find. It is these imperfections that give it a sort of cute Human touch.
( I should mention some people think I am mad, ( Doctors, Psychiatrists, Experts in the field of mental health. But they just don’t see things as I do … Lol ) )
Alan
