    See my comments:

I consider it a most awkward way to complicate a simple task.

Thanks, snb for sharing your opinion. However I respectfully disagree :-)
From what I watched in the demo it's much more than just yes/no comparison of code. Your snippet would yield no even as a result of single blank line, no more info whatsoever. With this tool you get full power to visually inspect/browse and get relevant information about changes that comes with Git

No big deal to compare each line of VBA and show the differences: just a few lines of code to add that functionality.

you need to keep multiple versions of the file in order to compare, while with VCS (Git in this case) you would push to repository and avoid exactly that.

Just an example - here is repo I have created when I was helping someone on this forum https://github.com/boyank/juniper_decrypt
I had to export the bas file before commit/push in order to have proper Git support (view history/review diff, etc.). As it is I'm able to track/review all changes (+ everything else VCS has to offer).
As I see it, with this tool one would be able to push the xls* file and have the same functionality without the hassle to export the bas file. Plus added tracking of content changes (not just the code)

    hi buran,

thanks for your post, I'm one of the guys behind xltrail and just came across this thread.

From what I gather, you and snb are coming from two different angles; snb has a one-off comparison in mind whereas you are interested in the
proper version control side of things.

I agree that, for a simple one-off comparison, our product(s) are an overkill for snb.
You on the other hand are interested in version-control/Git (which is a lot more than just diffing).

At the moment, xltrail is available on-premise only but if you want to play around with xltrail a bit more,
please have a look at our free cloud version: cloud.xltrail.com.

You can connect a repo that contains workbooks
(like the one you mentioned, but you just need to stick the workbook in there) and then you can see xltrail in action.

The cloud version if basic and only works with public repos but it's totally free.

Also, would be awesome to get your opinion on our free open-source Git client extension: xltrai.com/git-xltrail

Any question/suggestion etc, feel free to ask!

    Hi bstiel,
Thanks for joining the discussion. Yes, I'm more interested in full-featured VCS/Git. I come across your link on xlwings website and was curious to get feedback from other users if they had used it. I plan to play a bit with the free version to get first-hand impression, but I don't have time just now. As now I use python, it's not a priority but definitely goes on my to-do list...
