    Giving a rep

Was going to give somebody a rep but when I clicked the "add rep" button I got the normal rep button but also a number of suggestions as to what my comments should be???

    Giving_rep.jpg

Just curious but why this? To simplify things or just analyze why people give rep??

Perhaps as a fan of Ford (he don't know it by the way) I'll always click on the "Ford had the better solution" even if he has not made any comments in the thread.

    Good evening Alf

Is this dropdown not the one that shows your previous responses to this field? Have you suggested before that Ford's suggestion was better, or that you improved the OP's macro a bit ...

I certainly don't see that when I post a rep.

This is the second or the third time I've seen it but I got the feeling that when !'m reping somebody with a high level of points this pops up.

that you improved the OP's macro a bit ...
But this is a thing most of us do in this forum so that should not generate something extra.

My rep was based on solutions and comments that I found useful in threads I was skimming through and I had only participated in one of the three.

    Re: Giving a rep

I’ve never seen it, even when repping those with high rep counts.

I have only seen drop-downs like this in other places and they only ever offer me phrases I have used in the past. Some are remembered, some aren’t.

    "Curiouser and curiouser!” Cried Alice
Hmm, that shatters my theory on the how and the why as I do keep a record (most of the time) of the number I rep and I've only seen it 2 - 3 times during the last 2 weeks and never during the two years I kept track on the number of times I repped.

    Re: Giving a rep

I do see it, when I click the REP button - and then click IN the typing box - it shows me all the comments I have made previously, not just for reps, but also for when I close (both perm and temp) a thread.

(thanks for starting the fan club, Alf, much appreciated - I bet there are not that many members though lol)

    Re: Giving a rep

I also see it (regardless of whether it is Ford or a 2 post newbie),

I guess it is browser or browser settings.

Although... mine appears to be a little broken because it needs the "Ford had the better solution" option to work properly

    Re: Giving a rep

To be clear, if you are going to see anything at all, you will need to start typing and what you type will have to match the start of one of the phrases your browser has stored. My browser (Firefox) stores some phrases I use, but not others. So if I'm banning spammers, my spam reason comes up when I type the initial letter as an autofill, but the phrase I use when editing out unnecessary quotations does not save, so I have to type it out afresh or copy and paste each time. It seems a bit indiscriminate.

    Re: Giving a rep

I am using Chrome, and I actually dont need to type anything, just click on the box, and SOME previous messages appear. I know what you are referring to, Ali, kind of like an auto-complete.

I think I will try in FF and in Edge, see if that is still the same

Yep, this is browser setting. And it's dependent on site domain I believe.

Since, I tend to give edit reason more often, my suggestions are all my edit reasons :p
Not one off comments for giving rep.

On FF, I dont see anything when I click onthe box - but that could be because I rarely use FF, so I may not have anything stored in the cashe (or wherever it gets stored)

On Edge, I also don't see any previous messages, but again, that could because of what I posted in 13

Well I didn't start anything, just wishes to express my gratitude for the work you do in this forum. As for your bet that there are not many members I just counted 76 messages from forum members expressing their concern as soon as they knew about you heart attack and the thread you started have been read by 18593 members so I would say this makes a strong base for a fan club!

Be assured that the next time this "suggestion window" pops up I'll click on the "Ford had the better solution" as as tribute to your work and know-how. That should also baffle the receiver of the rep no end and strengthen the belief that Ford like Killroy was here first

    thank you so much!
Well you certainly deserve it. Being administrator for this unruly bunch must quite often be a thankless job.

To round up the mystery of the rep pop-up I see it regardless if I rep a "Registerd User", "Valued Forum Cotributor", "Forum Guru" or an "Administrator". It seems to get activated as soon as I do a mouse click on the space "Your comments on this post:"

I've also tested with clicking radio button "I approve"

    I_approve.jpg

as well as first clicking at the radio button "I disapprove"

    I_disapprove.jpg

but this does not change the wording in any way a thing I do find stange.

As I can't think of anything more to test I'll mark this thread "Solved"

    I got two possible excuses

It's a Chrome setting, if you don't want it active, paste this into your address bar

    chrome://settings/autofill

Then move the slider to the left.
