    new forum rules clarification

I have a clarification question on rule 10.

    10. Do not put links to commercial sites or services or to competing forums in signatures and posts. (A, B)

So often this post this morning I put a link to another site as a reference to the OP for something I might (?) have found on this forum.

    https://www.excelforum.com/excel-new...ate-sheet.html
I've referred posters to other sites at times because I thought the information contained was helpful.
Am I now violating rule 10?

    Re: new forum rules clarification

I would second that, there have been times in the past that I've thought "I know there's an exact answer for that query on {other excel forum}" so I've linked the thread.

If we aren't to do that then what do we do? rewrite the reply(ies) given over there? (which I know I haven't got the time to do), copy and paste carte blanche? which really should go with a link to credit the original author and therefore breaks rule 10?

    Re: new forum rules clarification

Also this is probably a good time to raise something thats bugged me for ages.

"C. Moderator should soft-delete posts until rule violation is resolved."

Often this happens a while after the post has been raised, members can spend time coming up with a solution only to find it can never be posted. As a result, these posts will often end up dying a death as a single question thats never been answered when 1 or more solutions have been developed, surely nobody gains by that? especially not the forum itself as people googling are directed to here only to find there's no solution.

Surely, there can be some other way round this?

    Re: new forum rules clarification

did you just violate this one?...
    4. Do not post a new help request in an existing thread. (B)

    and this one...
    13. Only give reps to members who earned them, not just for something trivial like an acknowledgment. (B, F)
I've given reps to people as a thank you for an interesting formula or post on someone else's post. Like one time I gave one to a forum guru for his reference to another poster about a new function - fuzzy lookup which I was unaware of. I was acknowledging his post, was that wrong?

    Hi Sambo kid and pjwhitfield

I am going to close this thread, as there is another discussion thread over this very same subject here.

Would you please post your comments there? Some of these very issues are currently being discussed, or have been answered

    Thanks
