    Anyone here a Microsoft MVP?

I was considering seeing if I could get that designation. Microsoft requires that you be nominated by someone who is already an MVP. Does anyone know how this process works?

I would be surprised if XOR LX isn't MVP.

Also are you conversant with Debra Dalgleish? We post her link often. I'd be surprised if she isn't familiar with your "handle". According to MVP site she is MVP.

    Also teylyn is MVP.

Re: Anyone here a Microsoft MVP?

I've been nominated on two separate occasions in the past. The nomination is handled by the "Lead" MVP in your area, who will contact you and ask for details of your contributions to the Excel community. I presume this then goes to the group of MVPs (similar to our votes for Gurus), but I've never had any feedback from that first stage so I'm not sure.

    Hope this helps.

No, it doesn't; it's all handled internally at MS.

As a matter of interest.... is there any benefit from being an MVP? (As I know NOTHING about VBA I have no personal interest at stake... it'll not happen to me... but I'm just curious).

Besides the (wo)men, fame and power, you get an invitation to the MVP summit where you can talk to the guys who actually design and work on the software and have input on that; you'll have opportunities to network, and present, if that's your thing; you also get access to the program leads, and some free software.

OK Thanks rorya... I've done the networking/fame/power thing for 25 years+. Been there, seen it, done, it, bought the t-shirt. I've no interest in starting up again. Happy to remain plain wee me.

Re: Anyone here a Microsoft MVP?

I know of three others on this forum who have not been mentioned and have been MVPs. I believe in all cases they are not an active MVP.

And yes, one of them I was PMing with the other day and they talked about the free software.

And, how about Andy Pope and Jon Peltier!

Andy is not one any more (unless they've seen sense and reinstated him) but Jon still is.

Also, in Word, macropod (Paul) according to his signature block along with Ron Coderre. By his sig block, his MVP is not active at the moment.

You might also be able to reach out to shg and davesexcel.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. Really, I am just thinking it would look good on my résumé (CV), and might open other doors for some part-time consulting work as I consider going into semi-retirement.

Re: Anyone here a Microsoft MVP?

Rory, please tell me likes of yourself, Colin & Richard are still MVPs?!

It seemed to me, a few years back, that more and more emphasis was being placed on an individuals' own web presence (own sites, channels etc), or put another way - demonstrating the techniques of "others" to a mass audience was of significant importance to MS, and whilst that rationale is perfectly understandable from MS' perspective it meant that for me, at least, the Award didn't mean quite the same thing as say a decade ago.

edit: never had it but would confess to at one point aspiring to it... in interests of self employment ;-)

Re: Anyone here a Microsoft MVP?

In which I would stand my earlier point that, for me at any rate, the MVP doesn't quite translate as it used to.

others I referenced above are Richard Schollar and Colin Legg... the fact that they, along with Andy Pope, are no longer MVPs is "surprising"...

I am surprised no one has mentioned Jindon. Given his contributions to the community for years, he must be either a MVP or ex-MVP.

Re: Anyone here a Microsoft MVP?

I'm still around here, even if only sporadically.

    And I'm still an MVP.

There have been a lot of changes to the MVP programme recently. Information about the MVP programme can be found at the official Microsoft site at https://mvp.microsoft.com

The different expertise areas like Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc. have recently been pooled into "Office Apps & Services", which also includes SharePoint and the whole Office 365 bundle.

It's now extremely difficult to find Excel MVPs on that site, because you can't select Excel as a filter anymore and searching for the word "excel" returns too much noise.
