    Web Hosting

    Hello,
I have had a few inquiries about my website. xlorate.com

GoDaddy has jacked the price to host the site, and I decided not to renew them as a host as it was getting expensive.

My site was purely informational, there were no ads. It wasn't a major site, it got about 30k hits a year.

    Anyway,
I still own the domain name.
Does anybody have a favorite free website host?

I doubt you'll find many of those these days, if any!

For what it's worth, all hosts seem to have hiked their prices quite considerably over the past 12 months - all of my renewals this time were significantly more then they had been before. Many of the smaller hosts (including my old host VirtualNames) have packed it in (or gone through), leaving the bigger names fighting it out. I was moved to Namesco when VirtualHosts packed up - I would not recommend them. Poor service and a messy, difficult to navigate site. My latest site is with FastHosts, and they seem much better, so I'm probably going to move all my sites there over the next few weeks.

There's always the 'host your own' option, but you'd have to set yourself up with a server and allow access to some of your home network from outside. I have used WAMP Server for site development, and I believe it can be set up to host an Internet site.

The other thing you could do is use a third-party blog site, but you would not have your own domain name that way.

I use Weebly. You can use it for free if you can live with "Powered by Weebly" at the bottom of each page. If you pay, you can lose that. You can use your own domain name, if you have one ... which, it seems, you have.

I used to have a have a paid account but I decided not to renew it after I retired. There are, I think, some limitations but nothing that affected me.

I'm using siteGround, which is much faster than the older NetworkSolutions host.

    Re: Web Hosting

    Oh ya,
After a few weeks, I am now able to forward the domain to a different website.

I have an old website that I have it linked to right now. But it will have to be edited to fix all the links.

I did notice I could link it to my google drive. I have seen samples of people just saving web files to google drive and treating it like a website.

    Anybody try that?
